seemore 66
Hi Guys Popped in to Sapporo last night to have a look around. Didn't have long but managed to shuffle around for a few hours. Pretty impressive stuff although my photos don't do it justice and some were looking a bit weathered. Seemore
muikabochi 208
I was just looking at those, very nice seemore. Note to self - another reason to get to Hokkaido.
Mike Pow 52
Very cool. Heading there this afternoon.

Tubby Beaver 209
I was there on Friday as well. We went during the day, then had some ramen for lunch and warmed ourselves up in the Sapporo Bier Garten in the afternoon...mmmmmm
scouser 4
You back now tubby?
r45 4
I went as well and took photos but they all came back blurred and useless. Really enjoyed it though.
Tubby Beaver 209
just in the door. Pretty tired..........Sapporo is a fun place. Its quite surreal to see such a big city with so much snow
r45 4
Did you get any boarding in too tubby, or just a 'cultural' visit?
Tubby Beaver 209
no boarding this time BUT TBH it was a good decision as I really enjoyed Sapporo and Otaru.
grungy-gonads 54
Ah a hols with the missus? I remember BM's report from some beer place in Otaru that looked good.
Thundercat 60
Yes, it was good. I'd definitely go back there next time I'm in the area and need a day off from boarding.
Tubby Beaver 209
Yeah with the missus, originally we were gonna be boarding but after Hakuba at New Year her interest in snowboarding has waned, so I them graciously "compromised" and spent the 2 days with her yeah I went there as well. Beer was pretty good, only had a couple though and went next door to eat some BBQ'd stuff.
JellyBelly 1
Nice, One day I'll get there too.
norcal 5
While I enjoyed the snow festival, its definately a one time thing (imo). Unless I'm back in hokkaido around that time, i wont make a special trip. The festival was great, beautiful sculptures, but not something to come back to every year. Do go to it if you have the opportunity, you wont be dissapointed.
Tubby Beaver 209
actually if anyone is in Sapporo and is looking for some good Ramen, I recommend Kura on North 2-West 1......great. I had the Kara Miso Ramen and the missus had the Shiro Miso Ramen...both were awesome
norcal 5
A few pics from the festival:
seemore 66
Yeah I agree Norcal. I won't bother again I am not big on city's as well. I am sure sapporo has many things to offer but for me it's an airport in transit. Seemore
Curt 1
Interesting. Kind of dampens my enthusiasm. I like the ones in that Tokamachi thread as well. Not on the same scale it seems - anyone been to both?
Curt 1
Sorry here it is that muikabochi posted http://www.snowjapanforums.com/index.php/topic/21402-tokamachi-snow-festival-niigata-17th-february-2012/
Tubby Beaver 209
I don't know why.....Sapporo is more than "just an airport in transit". I can see why if you lived there then the snow festival may wear thin year on year, but its cool to walk around, loads of food stalls and beer stalls and then of course the city itself. You don't have to hang around the snow festival all the time, you can also base yourself there for your snow activities. I really enjoyed Sapporo and if the Mrs could handle the cold, I'd be up there like a shot
Jynxx 4
I reckon too. but I wonder how one feels after living in a cold place for a while. I can live for winter but there is summer. Give me hot summer no worries. Just skip the humidity btw lol.
