Popular Post muikabochi 208
It was supposed to be snowing again this morning, but we woke up to some clearing skies and by 10 o'clock it was bright and sunny. Time to get out! Went to one of my locals - Centleisure Maiko Snow Resort in Minamiuonuma - 10-15 minutes drive for me and just to the north of Yuzawa. After all the heavy snow, snow conditions were just great. And as is often the case, tons of places to find untouched snow. Let's Maiko, I reckon. It was sunny and clear skies when I got there, but clouds quickly moved in and just 30 minutes later it was really clouding over quickly. Very grey skies later on this afternoon and I think we are in for more snow tonight. Anyway, it wasn't perfect for photos with the light and cloud, but was able to take some pretty ones. Here are some pics. Ue-heyyyyy! Another fine day

Tubby Beaver 209
you get a shuttle bus from the station.....I THINK its free, but not sure. ARRRGH!! I should've went there today!! I love the texture you get on the photos Muika, those ones with the trails cutting through the snow, can't explain it but I really love those shots
muikabochi 208
Thanks. I wouldn't be surprised if part of it actually is in Yuzawa. The top of the resort is almost connected with Iwappara on the other side. By car it is literally just a few minutes drive from the Shiozawa Ishiuchi IC, which is the next IC north of Yuzawa IC, about 4km on. http://www.snowjapan...php?resortNo=16 By train you would get off at Echigo Yuzawa and then get a shuttle bus to the resort which would probably take 10-15 minutes. RobBright 35
Its 25mins or so on the shuttle bus from the eqat exit of echigo yuzawa station.
muikabochi 208
Takes that long? Wouldn't have thought so. They must drive weally, weally slowly.
RobBright 35
That's according to bus time table I was given by JR. Of course, in blizzards it takes longer.
muikabochi 208
Do they stop a few times to pick people up etc? A fairly normal drive from Echigo Yuzawa station to Maiko doesn't take (much) more than 10 minutes I would imagine.
Tubby Beaver 209
well if you were Gnarly, you would've ripped your gear off and ran to Maiko while pulling the bus along, laughing in the face of the blizzard

Yeah, stops to pick people up along the way and also stops at the hotel before the one day centre.
muikabochi 208
Ta! One top tip for people going on a busy day. Or any day really! Don't bother with da gondola. Just get the quad lift next to it, and then get the other quad lift up to the bowl area. Much nicer. Well, I think so anyway. I have been on a few busy days when there's been a huge queue for the gondola and you could just walk onto the quad. Snowing again here now btw.
Mick Rich 78
Great pics as always Muika! & I'm glad to see that the conditions were much better than yesterday!!! I have next Friday off so can see a plan forming!
Metabo Oyaji 71
Nice. Look at all that easy-access fresh snow.
Tubby Beaver 209
year on year, when we see how much snow that Yuzawa gets, even although I love going there and finding few people, its kinda a shame that international tourists don't know about the place
