Hey. New here.

My friends and I are hoping to be in Japan in winter and have about 4 days free in plans. I'm scoping going up to Zao as it looks incredible.

Was wondering - it's not that far away from Fukushima and all the stuff going on there is it? Is it all ok up there this coming season?

Cheers

The skijo should be open as normal moshi-moshi.

They are worrried that people won't come but there seems no need for undue worry regarding proximity to Fukushima as readings are close to normal.

Technically, Zao is part of Yamagata City. City doesn't sound good though really for a skijo does it. Village has a much nicer ring to it.

Don't know if I will go back this year, but thats only because I have been the last few. Great place though so I may well go.

About 80km I think.

Yes I live most of the year in Yamagata though spend a lot of winter in Zao Onsen itself. I don't work for the skijo directly, though do wish to support it of course!

How far is Zao from that nuclear plant?

Nighta will be a green glowing trip this year! ;)

ILZ, do you know if the resort is worried the effect of Fukushima will have on visitor numbers?

Very worried.
