tokabochi 9
Those rates they put on are amazing.
NoFakie 45
It'll have been an expensive line to build with miles and miles of tunnels and high bridges and not that many passengers, so giving a significant proportion of users at least half off makes you wonder who will be paying for it. I suppose the same goes for lots of things in Japan. The latest plan is to make kindy free for kid number three, so keep spending Mr. Abe!
Tubby Beaver 209
Probably money "set aside" for Tohoku's reconstruction will have found its way into the pot
HeatherLocklearRocks 1
What's with the 'not many passangers'? Is that just a guess or something behind it?
NoFakie 45
I don't think Tokyo is full of people who have lots of money to go to on extra trips just because an hour or two less travelling will be involved.
pie-eater 207
But surely they planned this due to demand? Whatever, no fear, Abenomics will save it (and jolly well everything else!)
NoFakie 45
As for the discounting one, the line already goes to Nagano City. Are trips there discounted? There are plenty of resorts nearby.
Tubby Beaver 209
Yeah, trips are pretty much the same to Hakuba as they are to Kagura.....but an extra 2hr bus journey
best skier in hakuba 5
They allow 2 hours for the bus from Nagano Station to Hakuba, Tubby?
BagOfCrisps 24
Connection and faffing-about time as well I suppose?
Tubby Beaver 209
Not sure I follow what u mean BSiH. They factor in the bus times to hook up with the shink if that's what u mean. You can't get there for first lift either.....I think the first bus gets u to resort at about 10.
best skier in hakuba 5
but an extra 2hr bus journey I was wondering why an extra 2 hours....
Tubby Beaver 209
The shuttle bus from Nagano station to resort takes about 2hrs....compared to 20-30 mins from yuzawa station to resort
iiyamadude 6
Quite a ride that isn't it really.
Tubby Beaver 209
yeah....its what put me off day tripping in Nagano
iiyamadude 6
Gala Yuzawa is pretty amazing really when you think about it. 80 mins from Tokyo and you could be ready for the gondola.
Tubby Beaver 209
yeah, for door to door and decent conditions....its a no brainer, but actually I only went there a few times. I much preferred getting the extra 20 min shuttle bus up to Mitsumata and riding Kagura, so much more options. Gala is good if the south section is open, the the rest of it is pretty boring IMO. muikabochi 208
Remember there's the Ishiuchi part too which is easily accessible and adds quite a lot. Wouldn't bother really with Yuzawa Kogen on a one day gig, unless you wanted the views of Yuzawa. Certainly mega-accessible though can't take that away from it.
Slippery Jim 65
Isn't convenient access to Maruyama the whole reason for going to Gala?
sanjo 2
.....sounds like it is.... for you.
Slippery Jim 65
Would be if access to Kagura was closed
echineko 1
Myoko must be happy, even though the skijo are still quite a long way from the station, unlike Yuzawa for example.
634-maru 4
Missed this one. Better name than some of the others I suppose. It will be interesting to see how well used this is and how it affects Myoko and even places like Nozawa.
