shadowtec 0
I know I am going to get shot for this but I like to know if anyone here have ever ski/snowboarded in Korea. I like to think about a Japan/Korea/HK trip. snow/geek trip fly to japan. board then head south then take the boat over the ditch board some more then on the way home spend a couple of days in HK and even spend a day buying stuff in Shenzhen (electronic parts at the SEG supermarket) any one have any links or ideas ?
HelperElfMissy 42
Hows the AUD against the Yuan at the moment... <just checked> hmmm...not bad, probably close to the best conversion rates of the last 5 years... A trip to Shenzhen could pay for itself depending on how much you buy. As for Korea - never been myself - but why not! I hear it is cold cold cold, not a heap of snow, and pretty crowded, but as a leg on a journey it could make for an very interesting experience (and a very interesting SJ Trip Report!) ju87 0
after hitting Japan you will not want to ski in Korea... it's just not worth it. it's cold, icy and crowded.
ippy 66
Korea - biiiiiiiiiiimyo! I love korea. I love especially korean people. But their snow sucks. If you must, then maybe the best place to hit up is High1 Followed by pyeongchang, followed by phoenix park, and if youre really far south, then head to muju. If you like casinos though, high1 would be a definite good call. Head to the slopes during the day, then hit the casino at night. Might be a lot of fun (i wouldnt know, im scottish, and as a good scottish protestant (im not), me and my money are not easily parted).
joshnii 2
But surely it MUST be great --- the Olympics are being held there!!!!!!!!!
ippy 66
go look at the pyeongchang 2018 website (google it). I actually laughed when they showed one of the resorts. Not sure which one it is, but i looked through the next 4 pages of uimages in the hope that this wasnt the only resort they were hyping and couldnt see any other pictures that looked like they could support anything more than a sledge race

sand 17
Originally Posted By: joshnii But surely it MUST be great --- the Olympics are being held there!!!!!!!!! Of course it must be the Olympics aren't corrupt. Lee Kun-Hee, Samsung leader, was in prison for tax fraud was pardoned so he could help the South Korea bid for the winter Olympics says it really. The fact that Korea hasn't had a downhill ski course with enough vertical drop is no problem either. By and large the people are warm and friendly, unless your a foreign male and have a Korean partner. Last week while in Seoul, some Korean guy through food at me and yelled at my wife for nothing more than the fact we were together. This kind of anger directed towards us was very frequent over the 5+ years we lived there, and was part of the reason why we decided to leave. But if you don't have a Korean partner then you'll generally find people warm and friendly. As Ippy said, South Korean slopes are not worth it if your going to Japan already, you often have vast quantities of artificial (snow maker) snow. If you spend a lot of time in the half pipe then that's no problem.

yamayamayama 2
I remember when I first came to Japan and could hardly understand anything. I came with an adventurous and positive attitude. It was perhaps the most fun I have ever had.

norcal 5
Falling on Korean snow is like falling on concrete....wear wristgaurds! lol Korea is a great place, but I wouldn't go out of my way to snowboard there (again). Waaay to crowded for sub-par conditions (imo). The space is limited on Korean slopes. They have some trails and the usual main slopes, but other than that you don't get much variation. Just crowds and crowds of people, every day of the week.
