Why oh why do resorts need 10 guys with sticks pointing people to a car parking space. They are just totally unncessary. OK maybe 1 or two but just seeing these guys standing around doing sod all just annoys me.

If the old men didn't have jobs they would rise up and start a revolution

I wanted to run over one of them the other day. He wasn't doing his job when I came in so I went and parked on my own. Got everything out of the car and was just putting my skiboots on when he walks over and wants me to move my car 2 metres over. mad.gif

Haven't been to deco yet this season. We've been getting this wicked deal from the Nekoma hotel, twin room, 2 day lift pass and "biking" breakfast for 12 thou. I smashed myself up off a table top a few weeks ago so I haven't been up there for while, so I don't know what the snows like right now. Probably get back on the horse this weekend though!

>>"Because Japan is a very safety(!) country"

I think this place is still socialistic. Airports' are the same, one to take your ticket and put into a machine, the other to hand the stub to you! The machine is supposed to be a lobor saving device.

Less ticket machines or less ojisans? I presume you mean less ojisans? I don't have much to compare to, but always feel there are so many numbers of workers doing all sorts of things in this country.

Construction workers make me laugh, about 10 guys needed to fill a small hole and 10 to coordinate the traffic. Totally ott. Why do companies do this? Are there regulations that require extreme overstaffing or something, otherwise it doesn't make much sense. Cut those costs!

You know its classic..because I actually did this job (just once for a five hour shift and got paid handsomely for it (over 3000 yen an hour)..It was absolutely bizzare now that I think of it...We were obviously just their as show pieces of some description..It was funny because people would pull up early morning and I'd be standing there with my big jacket, beanie, goggles etc and ORANGE LIGHT SABRE..Just holding that thing I felt so much power..People would start blaring full noise and I could speaak 5/8ths of FA Nehongo at the time....So I would just stand there and then lift my goggles to show my round eyes....The look on some peoples faces waas just priceless...Then I would whistle to the retired salaryman who most of the time would be sitting in the hut drinking boss coffee, smoking and reading a porno or whatever. He would then leg it over and tell the person where to park the car!

when i was in fernie they would have car park guys as well (but only 2 or 3 of them) telling everyone where to park their cars. we used to think it was hilarious and would drive around, park where we wanted etc etc.

then one morning there was no-one in the carpark and people were pulling up wherever they felt like it. this seemed to make much more sense to us. it was only after we left our car and walked to the lifts when we realised what a shambles the carpark was. because the lot was mostly snow and they were no designated bays, the car park guys would direct traffic so that only two cars would be parked end to end and there was an access lane in between. without these guys there, everyone had just parked bumper to bumper and the no-one could get out of the bloody place. pretty funny
