CherryBoy 0
How are the rates doing for people visiting Japan these days? Just came from the UK and was shocked at it lingering in the 130s.
Tubby Beaver 209
I want the UK pound to plummet to around 100....yes that would be grand!
r45 4
I don't understand why the yen hasn't collapsed, or at least become weaker, because of March 11th and all. Not that I have any idea about how all these things work anyway but..
skinski 0
Yeah great for when you are going back the other way. Not good for people visiting Japan though.
BagOfCrisps 24
It's hovering around 130 at the moment. Not good for those visiting from the UK for sure.

Just reading some forecasts that it will weaken Sept-Oct before strengthening again early 2012 (vs USD that is).
perl 0
Never been to Japan now but I hear it is bad and has been for the last few years. Is it true it was like 30-40% better for visitors to Japan 10, 20 years back?
Tubby Beaver 209
when I first came here in 2002 it was around 230 yen to the UK Pound, its now around
norcal 5
It's about 78-79 Yen to the $ here for us Americanos. When I first got here in '06 it was about 120 to the $, or more (can't remember exactly) Sure does hurt to go out, but wtf am I gonna do, be a hermit? lol I didn't come here to sit around like people I know (not on this site, haha) Sure wish it would level out though...with an earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear issues they still kick the US dollar A$$!! bagger 0
That's a mighty change. Was only looking at that the other day with one eye on a visit in February.
rach 1
Sent some money back to England today. Nice rates!
Slippery Jim 65
Back in the day (so to speak) the US$ was worth 360 yen
Tubby Beaver 209
what a drop!!
Nisoko 6
A move in the other direction would help no end!

Interesting, norcal. Does your pay change often to refect big changes?
norcal 5
Like the changing yen rate?
2pints-mate 0
Well, yeah. Are you totally at the mercy of the rates?
norcal 5
We get a cost of living rate, so that helps. Most save it and don't do much, but for the most part i'm always trying to go somewhere/do something with the family. I do save though, lol.
oo 1
Interesting, I suppose there must be gppd and nad in that.... perhaps not the best right now!
Tubby Beaver 209
it'll help to live on base though, for 1 things are in $ and are also generally much cheaper than off base......problem then is that you don't see much of the country you're living in
norcal 5
I'm lucky enough to live off base (small earthquake as I type, lol)...anyway I can't complain I guess, I did have the option to go back but chose to stay, Japan is alot of fun.
grungy-gonads 54
The pound is in for a rough time over the coming months. according to "experts". Its hovering around 130 at the moment, how much worse/better* can it get? * delete as appropriate!
Tubby Beaver 209
by rough, do they mean its gonna fall in valuation against other currencies....such as the yen? Hope so, that would be good, my credit card would be worth next to nothing!
muikabochi 208
I read something along those lines yesterday, meaning that the pound is expected to be weak yes.
