bobby12 0
Go Native, have you tried looking a Kindle or Sony Reader though? It is a different technology, basically real ink that is moved around the screen by electromagnet - much easier to read and longer battery life than an LCD screen such as your PC monitor or iPhone. Go Native 70
I haven't yet but to be honest have no real interest. I already enjoy reading paper books, there's not much incentive to change really. My wife and I would read a couple a week between us and we keep all the books we read. I love having a few walls around the house with shelves filled with books. Can't get that on some electronic gadget. The thing for me is why would I want e-books? What is the motivation?

Go Native 70
Oh if I couldn't buy paper books I too would mourn. It's not the case yet though it is? And I can't see it happening in what remains of my lifetime.
Chriselle 158
I don't read books...never really have. Could never see the attraction. About the closest I come to reading anything are old RCA vacuum tube manuals and guitar amp schematics and layouts...damned exciting stuff. And although it's not actual reading...I do download audiobooks and listen to A LOT of podcasts during my hour (each way) daily commute.
Go Native 70
I couldn't understand the whole reading attraction either until in a moment of extreme boredom I read my first fantasy genre novel at the age of 14. Since then I've read many hundreds of books, all within the fantasy or science fiction genres. I read to escape the real world for awhile. I can't stand non-fiction, I have never actually managed to get through a novel based on real events.
r45 4
What authors you like Go Native? I've always been keen to read some science fiction but often it seems to go off on a deep end. Any recommendations for a good shallow end?

I think the first sci-fi series I read was the Foundation Trilogy by Asimov. It's a classic series that I'm sure you'd enjoy and leads onto other goodies like the Robot series. It's what got me started in the genre.

I cannot be bothered reading on a tiny iPod screen, but with someone else reading, it is fine! Currently listening to Judy Dench (OK, DAME Judy Dench if you insist!) reading her book "And Furthermore". Quite interesting in smallish doses.
snowdude 44
I must say I enjoy reading the Les Norton series by the Australian author Robert Barrett, makes for some hilarious reading. I must have almost all his books. Otherwise I read books on topics of interest to me, such as farming, cars, etc etc.
ausi ski bum 1
I love my books, I read Clive Cussler, Steve Berry, Dan Brown, John Birmingham etc but I also love to listen to audio books when I drive. I swim every morning in Junee a town 45 minutes from here and I listen to my Audio Books on the way, very relaxing start of the day. I just finished listening to the Millenium Trilogy (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo etc) and before that I listened to Birminghams Axis trilogy. Trouble with E Books when you do a lot of short flights ie Wagga to Sydney which is about 1 hour, you cant read an e book much as you cant have them switched on for take off and landing. Reading one of the Cussler books ATM, the latest Issac Bell book.
big-will 7
Never experienced an audio book. Might give it a try.

JA2340 16
I find that somewhat disturbing. Driving is not something that should be done with distractions that require concentration on other than the driving. OK, listen to "music" because that doesn't require you to listen acutely to the output of the system, but a book requires you to concentrate on the words, taking away from the quite demanding act of driving safely. It also, IMHO, removes a significant indicator of the progress of the drive, vehicle noises are a significant indicator of the health and welbeing of the vehicle as it moves, if you cannot hear these noises, you have NFI what the car is trying to tell you. (and this is also a reason not to have the sound up too loud when listening to music). YEP, BOF alert!! But I have survived many years of driving, and many kilometers under the wheels. (Since 1 Nov, I have driven about 36000km)

Ocean11 0
I don't want to get the first levitating version because you can be sure it would have bugs. It would hover sideways, or unaccountably smash into your face when you move slightly. Any system that allows you to get hold of reading material without paying is fine with me. I've read a few ebooks on my iPhone and it works nicely. PDFs are a bitch though. They don't reflow properly at all. (Clive Cussler books - titter. Good for wiping your bottom with perhaps, but surely not reading...?)

LiquidX 0
Don't really read books. Should really perhaps. The ones I do have all been on paper though. How long do you readers read for in a sitting?
