Lots of talk of LED lights now - seem to be expensive but use up much less and last much longer. Anyone using them? Do you just stick them into the current light fixings no worries?

Just bought one, it fits into the regular light fitting, was way more expensive than usual bulbs, 3000 yen but its good now for 35 years....apparently. Gives off same if not better light than the bulb I had in before

They actually start faster than old incandescent (filament) bulbs! No slow start like a compact flourescent.

Was looking at them today in town.

Expensive indeed.

Would cost a fair bit to kit out the whole house with them.

Wonder if I would suddenly see a big difference in the eleccy bill.

We have replaced almost all our original halogen downlights with LED units. The transformers have to be able to drive them (some kinds cannot for some reason) but they are wonderful! They run very cool, they draw practically zero current (except for the losses in the transformers) and they last for ages!
