How did the bike ride go Mr Orange?

8pm? Is it dark at that time - I really detest riding at night.

I managed to ride home (via coffee with one friend; and lunch with another) from dropping my car off for a service - all up 22kms. My quads felt the hills, I shall need to stretch tonight or I will appear to be rather elderly when I try and walk tomorrow morning wink

I go on my rides mostly in the evening too Mamabear.
It's the only time really I can with work and stuff.
Got used to it. Just as long as I am visible out there.
Would be nicer to have the mountain views though I suppose.

Pull ups & Chin ups are a major part of Crossfit but can be scaled. I started out using a resistance band and gradually reduced the amount that i needed (Thinner bands). I got to a point where I no longer need a band and if we we do a workout with more reps I just break it down into 5 or 10 at a time. Another scaled version are jump ups which a lot of the newer unfit & pretty large folk start out on.

With the whole food thing, you have to enjoy life unless you are that damn fat that initially you need to be really strict. I have adopted the 80/20 rule which is 80% of the time good, 20% bad. But I have found myself not wanting the bad stuff but if I can’t avoid it (like tonight- cheapskate pizza night) I’ll have it and not beat myself up!

Doing a bit of riding myself these last few weeks.

Probably all told do close to 100km a week, in 4 or 5 goes.

Can't stick jogging myself.

Kickboxing this morning - got told off by the trainer for going a bit too 'impact' on my shins. shifty I am getting frustrated now. I want to do more. I felt that was a good sign...

Physio confirmed it was indeed.

But I have to hold myself back a bit.

No running as yet, but I can now add the impact stuff - like I can now do jump squats instead of squats, and burpees instead of lunges, real star jumps instead of the very pathetic low impact version etc.

I am happy about this progression - and have my fingers crossed that he lets me do a trial run in 2 weeks when next I go back.

And while it may seem a small thing - I am stoked that I managed to take my plank up to toes today (most of the women in my group do planks and push ups on their knee's) - I have been struggling to hold it for whatever the time is (sometimes 1 min, sometimes 2) on my knee's - my abdominals and back were in such poor shape. But today I moved to my toes biggrin Hello abs biggrin

Yeah.
Like that is gonna happen.
lol

But I might finally be able to get up on my snowboard from my butt when it is flat - up to now I have had to flip to my knee's unless there is a decent pitch.

Had this conversation with GarethOAU last night - the double black belt.

No, it is fitness kickboxing in a personal training programme - not the dojo/belts/assessments and competitions thing. It's pretty bloody intensive, but with the purpose of strength and cardio workout rather than competition.

Following clip doesn't show much, but gives you an idea..

I am doing 3 sessions a week with these guys - Monday is cardio, Wed is toning (weight or fitball) and fridays is kickboxing - the following video gives an idea.

Good thing about Step Into Life is that anyone can do it - the trainers adjust your workout to suit you. Mine has factored in my shin splints issue and made everything low impact, one of the women in my group is an ex-body builder on the post-kid come back and she adds difficulty to her programme, another has just finished her chemo for breast cancer so her programme is suitably light.

Went out for a ride last night. Was about 7km from home when it started raining possibly as hard as it could rain. I was absolutely soaked by the time I got back home. And the forecast was for cloud/fair.

I'm on a roll at the moment.

Eating lots of salad and not lots of anything fattening.

Doing about 20km each evening when it's not raining.

Feeling good and can notice a difference.... which makes you all the more motivated!

Those classes are great for fitness as you have mentioned. My reservations come from 15 years of a martial arts background (with multiple black belts too). The fitness part is fine, it's the lack of technique, especially to do with punching that worries/annoys me. So many personal trainers have done the "course" and it's not hard to get the ticket but I haven't really come across many that are really qualified or even have a clue on how to really punch.

The reason I say this is because I have seen a lot of injuries (wrists & hands) that could have been avoided had the correct technique been taught. My Sensei here treats alot of these injuries as a physio aswell.

MB, not at all dissing what you are doing, just venting my concerns as it sucks to see people being injured by people they are paying to teach them bad form.

Are you training up to sort that ref out MB wink

I've been hitting the pool again. 2.6 km with a mix of lung busters and paddles.

It's getting a bit harder to be motivated when the air temp in the morning is 10 deg. The water is heated to 23 deg.

The first 4 laps are the worst.
