iiyamadude 6
Been speaking to a few friends in Nozawa - lots of cancellations coming in now. Understandable that this is happening I suppose. Wonder where the rest of the season will go now. And we were doing so well with the snow as well.
ILoveZao 8
Lots here in Zao - obviously for this coming week as the resort will be closed - but beyond that as well. I think it is only to be expected.
BagOfCrisps 24
Well, I'm glad my trip isn't for next week that's for sure.

The only damage I saw wondering around early Saturday morning was a broken window in one of the hotels.
gnarly-dude 1
I think the season is as good as finished.
muikabochi 208
I think a number of resorts will close leaving perhaps just a few to remain part open. Yesterday there was literally NO-ONE at some resorts. Quieter than the quietest of weekdays. Most are open here, though Maiko has announced that it will be closed indefinitely, but if no-one is coming I doubt they will continue for long. One guy who works at a hotel I know in Yuzawa said that out of the 200 planned guests on Sunday they had 4.
TJ OZ 0
Lots of cancellations here. No one on the mountains. Tokyo clients are being evacuated. I have arranged to escort a guest back to Narita as she is so scared to travel by herself. The news reports from other countries are scaring the wits out of people. I think we can pretty much call an end to the season. This storm over the next few days is the only time I have prayed that it doesn't hit Japan although it is looking like there is a lot of snow coming. It is only going to make relief efforts more difficult.
rider69 18
It will be a quiet end to the season for sure. I too am praying for the storm to not really come. But the areas that were hit by the quake are not in the big snow belt so lets hope for them.
best skier in hakuba 5
I can hardly see people coming to Japan to ski from now (this season I mean). And a lot of people affected within Japan. I can see lots of resorts closing by the end of this week or next week.
Go Native 70
Up here due to our booking terms and conditions all people who've booked in March have already paid for their accommodation in full and if we strictly follow our T&C's full cancellation fees apply if they were to now cancel. We have obviously been getting a lot of emails regarding this. Basically we are advising clients that if something occurs that makes it impossible for them to get to Hokkaido or disrupts operation of the resort we will discuss options regarding possible refunding or vouchers for a future stay with us. If they are able to make it to Hokkaido but choose not to then we are unlikely to offer any refunds. Hokkaido thankfully has received relatively little damage and certainly transport, power and the resorts are all running as normal.
Tubby Beaver 209
what about the connections through Narita and Haneda? How are those airports affected?

Tubby Beaver 209
I mean the airports not the connections between the airports
HelperElfMissy 42
Originally Posted By: Tubby Beaver I mean the airports not the connections between the airports but the majority that fly into Narita need to transfer to Haneda to get up north. and the majority that fly in wherever need trains to get them out to Honshu resorts. I think the calls of the season coming to a premature end are fairly accurate.
muikabochi 208
I have had a drive around just now. Petrol + food, no problem here at the moment. All shops are open and stocked as normal from what I can tell. Everything seems pretty much normal really. Ishiuchi, Iwappara.... a tiny, tiny number of people on the slopes. They could almost have been closed, took me a while to spot any people.
miller 1
Honestly, I think people would have to be slightly potty to want to visit Japan right now.
Tubby Beaver 209
no bread milk and toilet paper to be found in any shop near me. Loads of veg and meat, but if the power DOES go off, I don't wanna have loads of meat to cook up. Wish people would stop panic buying down here as it isn't THAT bad!! HelperElfMissy 42
..someone better send Tubby a bit of loo roll! These are the added insults that come after a major disaster. The initial cause may be over, but the suffering continues.
rider69 18
Tubby do you have any snow near you? If you do put it in the freezer.

rider69 18
It might be a challenge next season and this summer season.
xxx 2
This is just so massive, trying to disassociate Japan with it will be difficult for a while I would think. Whatever the reality is.
Tubby Beaver 209
no rider, we don't get snow down here. It was a beauty of a day here earlier, up in the late teens. Clouded over mid-afternoon and is a little cooler but not cold
