Tanigawa Tenjindaira (Gunma) - 16th February 2011

Recommended Posts

Today I went to Tenjindaira in Minakami, northern Gunma.

About 40 minutes or so drive from home here on the other side of the mountain range.

Weather was just amazing.

Deep deep blue skies.

Mad contrasts and a very suntinted face this evening!

Fantastic day up there and definitely worth a look. Early on lots of untouched areas to play in and they were pretty much carved up by lunchtime as you can perhaps see on some of the photos.

If you want a place that offers incredible scenery on a fine day, not many places will beat Tenjin. It is stunning.

Here's some photos in no real order. Just taken from the small area that is the resort. I've hardly touched contrast on most of them if anything trying to tone it down, it was mad bright. Spot all the little people in a few of the photos you might not see them at first.

In this photo you can see the 3 lifts that make up the resort. It's small. But lots of ungroomed and people hiking out of the area.

The top gondola station, which is actually the base of the resort.

NZweebs, thats what Tenjin is all about. The "resort" itself is tiny, as Muika said, only 3 lifts. The terrain around looks great, would love to head up and over the back. When I went the snow wasn't so great but we played in the forested area that leads back down to the bottom of the gondola......quality

Great photos, and yeah, definitely one of the best days for photos here too yesterday. Below -10C overnight and then clear as a bell. I didn't get up the hill but all the snow in the neighbourhood was covered in sparkly ice crystals glinting in the light. It was really magical.
