I don't know if this has been done before but... what's with some Japanese mothers stapping their little kid to their back and then driving!?! Is that not, er, dangerous? Or is the back pack thing reinforced so that the kid won't get squashed when the mum puts on the brakes?

Always looks mad when I see that.

Of course it's not safe but at least from my experience up this way in Hokkaido kids safety in cars is not exactly a big concern. I've seen mothers sit infants on their laps whilst driving, I've seen toddlers standing on mums thighs and assisting with the steering! I've seen young kids in the passenger seat with just the seatbelt on when they are obviously too small for it to be effective and probably just downright dangerous. In the back seats it is usually just a free for all with kids jumping around all over the place. Japan is definitely not a nanny state! wink
