Curt 1
Almost missed this but there seems to be all this heat between China and Japan this week. The most worrying thing though is that SMAP have cancellend their Shiang Hai concerts. The liberally-minded Ishikara from Tokyo has waded in: ã‚ã‚“ãªä¸å›½ã«è¡Œãã¤ã‚‚ã‚Šã¯ãªã„ (He doesn't like people who are too patriotic you see)
Curt 1
Actually he doesn't really seem to have too font of China does he, Ishihara Regarding the Rape of Nanjing: "They say we made a holocaust there, but that is not true. It is a lie made up by the Chinese." In response to China's first successful launch of a man in space: "The Chinese are ignorant, so they are overjoyed. That spacecraft was an outdated one. If Japan wanted to do it, we could do it in one year." “Let them bomb Japan with that nasty missile. Their missile cannot load a nuclear warhead.†Regarding a war between China and the United States: "Wars are a war of attrition of lives. China holds no value at all for human life and can start a war without any concerns...If tensions mount between the United States and China, the two sides could pull the trigger on each other. Then, the more the fire expands, the United States, which has a civil society that highly values human life, would not be able to win." Ishihara: Life-respecting U.S. no match in war against China

Mantas 3
Quote: Regarding the Rape of Nanjing: "They say we made a holocaust there, but that is not true. It is a lie made up by the Chinese." Astonishng that such delusional arogance can make it into main stream politics by popular vote.
BagOfCrisps 24
Made the news here. They were on about lots of Chinese "boycotting" Japan. Is dat true?
thursday 1
'cos of the Daoyus it's become very heated. International schools in both countries have been threatened by right wing nutters in Japan, and ordinary people in China. Yesterday 4 Japanese spies were apprehended by politzai in retaliation for the fishing boat captain still being held without cause in Japan. Last week, rare earth metals were banned for export to Japan. Next week, PLA warships will ram some Japanese self rubbing force frigates.
Davo 1
looks like the DPJ has limpwristedly let the captain off- amusing to see Ishihara choking on his own bile over it
Mintyjulep 0
I was watching this movie this afternoon about the terracotta soldiers. Did you know the emperor one has magical powers and if he drinks from the fountain at shangri-la he'll become immortal. Those Terracotta soliders are angry looking, but if you have a big sword or an undead army they seem to fall apart easily
RobBright 35
So Japan has decided to release the captain...

bobby12 0
China are so shady, the chinese gov does not play fair at all. I worry what they are going to do in future as they grow. Surely thet best thing Japan can do is start mass immigration of Chinese. This will be a self protection policy against future aggression from Chinese inevitable power, and at the same time fix the declining population problem without diluting the Japanese bloodline (Japanese would see it in short term as a dilution of course). As a bonus, it makes Japanese business expansion in China easier thanks to the new bilinguals.
RobBright 35
another of Bobby's smart ideas - China is at the moment on a program of aggressive expansion but is up against two of the world's strongest economies - The USA for blatant currency manipulation and Japan to decide which is the main power in Asia. The worst thing Japan can do is encourage Chinese workers-what they should be doing is to diversify its interests into other manufacturing markets that are less volatile. In both countries there is a history of mistrust and disenchantment, caused by thousands of mistakes by both sides. Right now -China's domestic economy is being supported by its export market. If that were to significantly reduce or be cut back, it would start to cause problems across the country. There are plenty of countries, such as Vietnam, Indonesia, India and Taiwan that are more than prepared to step into China's manufacturing shoes.
