The more acrimonious the relationship gets, the more likely Rooney will be to pull that kind of stunt. Selling him to whoever will pay up at least something in January (Citeh?) may be the only move. With his contract and form, it seems fanciful to suggest they'll get tens of millions for him.

didn't do Webster much good, he had to pay Hearts some money, he hardly played for Wigan and then got injured and has hardly played for Rangers.....although he did spend a successful year last year on loan at our place, Dundee United, so yeah well done Webster!! smile

Wayne Rooney's ankle was injured in training on Tuesday following a tackle by Paul Scholes,

lol
Get in there Scholes.
A nicer person could not have done.

Though I am hoping for an injury free Rooney to see if he is played or not.

Yeah, the bridges are burning brightly at both ends. He's off asap.

The Webster thing means that his contract is effectively a year shorter than it looks. With sane buyers, that would drastically lower his price, but who knows with Citeh? Money looks meaningless to them.

Thing s Mr W, that has been a FIFA directive for a while, just that Webster was the first (at least highish profile) player to take advantage of the loophole.

Do you think he'd go to City?

I wouldnt buy him unless he was v.cheap. He is the new Gazza isnt he, I can easily see him losing the plot bigtime soon. Far too risky to shell out big money on.

Webster is a last resort to actually use, but it must be a powerful tool if you want to drive a hard bargain.

Citeh have the cash so I'd imagine that puts them in pole position. The last player to leave ManYoo for Citeh for cash has also scored loads more goals than before, so its not unthinkable or a kiss of death. If Rooney refused to sign on August 14, it suggests he has had a plan for quite some time.

'I met with David Gill last week and he did not give me any of the assurances I was seeking about the future squad.
'I then told him that I would not be signing a new contract.
'I was interested to hear what Sir Alex had to say yesterday and surprised by some of it.
'It is absolutely true, as he said, that my agent and I have had a number of meetings with the club about a new contract. During those meetings in August I asked for assurances about the continued ability of the club to attract the top players in the world.
'I have never had anything but complete respect for MUFC. How could I not have done given its fantastic history and especially the last six years in which I have been lucky to play a part?
'For me it's all about winning trophies - as the club has always done under Sir Alex. Because of that I think the questions I was asking were justified.
'Despite recent difficulties, I know I will always owe Sir Alex Ferguson a huge debt. He is a great manager and mentor who has helped and supported me from the day he signed me from Everton when I was only 18.
'For Manchester United's sake I wish he could go on forever because he's a one-off and a genius.'

What an absolute bastard.

Wayne, 1 goal in 6 months. From a penalty.
