The MSP and Poorboyz (Salomon freeski TV) crews along with the Canadian Sandbox snowboard crew flew home last week with some of the best footage a foreign film crew has captured yet. I guess it helps when you have some of the world's best freeskiers along for the ride. No question many great shots and segments will be churned out from these top snowboard and ski porn producers.

Tried to get them to go up north to the bigger mountains but they enjoyed the killer terrain in and around Niseko so much that they refused to leave! Just shows how much potential Hokkaido and the rest of Japan have to offer.

From what I heard, the big boys from Poor boyz were out in chad's gap Utah today setting a new bar to free skiing. Can't confirm what was landed but I can say that it will blow your mind when the video is released next fall.

I just wonder. Is this the big boyz cashing in on the big name?

Who has not heard of Niseko? And there's an extreme vid done by extreme skiers who just happen to film in Niseko? Want to buy it?

I think part of the reason Niseko is big is because of the skiers who filmed here. I know that if it wasn't for Tanner in Believe, JP in Reasons, Sage in Anamoly etc I wouldn't have heard of it and wouldn't be working here.

I bet the coverage Black Diamond has gotten from some of those movies won't have been too bad for them either!

Really, because you know my motivations better than me? Ok, I probably would have heard of it, but I really doubt I would have come to live here had I not seen movie after movie featuring stupid deep snow.

*Sigh*, obviously it has. Like I said, I probably would have heard of it without them. I wouldn't have come here, I really fail to see how you could possibly say otherwise, given that you know nothing about me.

Oh, and I know exactly who you are, not that it really matters.

I took your post to hold a certain amount of sarcasm! Apologies if it didn't.

Who are you? I can't see profiles so have no idea.

And I am not the only person who was influenced by ski movies to come here, when I asked a new guy what brought him here, he said 'Believe' as well.

What a load of crap. Niseko was never on the ski porn radar, it was always Hakuba for the steepness, the vert, the blah blah blah, the night life rollabout

Get real. You made it here to make the coins from the mass market.

Haha, it has been, getting better now though.

@Thursday, really? Cause I watch an awful lot of ski movies and have never heard of this Hankuba place, is it good? wink

Niseko as a mountain doesnt offer much in the way of terrain - not even the back bowls. Rusutsu neither though the cliff band there seemed to have lots of options. Further north there is much better "terrain" and vert. Close to Niseko Yotei and Shiribetsu are probably your two best options. MikePow says Kiroro is sweet but I think he tilts his camera when he shoots wink

In todays pros around Niseko, I saw LJ Strenio in Seico.

I hit up WIlson yesterday about 12pm and he said that it wasn't looking promising, so I don't think they hit it today.

LJ is a real funny kid. One of the most humble skiers I know.

Perhaps it's not and never has been about terrain.

Ski film makers travel the globe to add something different to the mix, otherwise each season's offerings would be essentially the same.

For example, TGR based in Jackson Hole, WY has the terrain and snow to fill the majority of their movie.

Add an Alaska or Yukon heli-segment.

Add something a little different in the US or Canada, eg Silverton, Colorado.

Then head to Europe, alternating something in the Alps eg Chamonix, La Grave with something from the east, eg Bansko, Zakopane.

Then we get exotic, Gulmarg or Niseko or Krasnya Polyana.

Now when they travel half way round the world, they're looking for location, snow, and someone on the ground that can organise shit for them.

Perhaps Niseko has this more dialed than Hakuba.
