IIIII 2
With all this heat and rain, is anywhere going to be decent this weekend? Do tell.
Chriselle 158
Whistler looks like it was getting some snow....Oh!..you meant Japan. Doubt it.
panhead_pete 27
Raining here now in Hak....

quattro 1
Good is what you make of it. It's better to be skiing then in the office.
cal 6
I disagree with that oft heard cliche. I would prefer to be in the office today and take a day off when conditions are good rather than waste a lot of cash going out and being disappointed. (PS Can you make good snow conditions quattro?) Go Native 70
Rained last night in Niseko about 15-20mm. Not raining now and it's cooling down but the mountain will just turn into a ice skating rink until more snow falls.
HelperElfMissy 42
oh dear ... I have friends in both Hakuba and Hokkaido at the moment. That is a shame.
quattro 1
No I cant Make perfect conditions. But If I have to wit for those type of conditions may be waiting awhile.
cal 6
In that case I will wait, save my holidays, until then whenever it is. Others can go spend money on crap, I'll pass.
HelperElfMissy 42
It is very easy to turn into a snow snob when you have access to great ski area's on your doorstep - for the rest of us though - we are just happy to have something to slide on. The fluffier the better - but we will take what we can get.
cal 6
Well it's a 4+ hour journey for me and a cost of course, so hardly on my doorstep. Whatever, doesn't bother me what other people do!
HelperElfMissy 42
4+ hours and able to be decided depending on conditions is most definitely on your doorstep (compared to Perth!) Don't get me wrong I like pristine powder days as much as the next guy - but I am also going to make the best of Elephant Snot or icy slopes - after all as an instructor told me once on hard packed icy Thredbo baby slopes "If ya can ride this, ya can ride anything!". For me, poor conditions are like riding switch. I don't particularly love it, but I give it a good shot because I know I will improve my riding by doing it. And I often surprise myself and have the most laughs on the cr@ppy days.

Go Native 70
I tried skiing yesterday at Kiroro and it was incredibly bad. The snow was so sticky that on any flat section more than 20m long you'd come to a standstill as there was no way you could get up enough speed to get through it. It really just wasn't any fun especially as most of the good terrain was closed because of higher lifts on wind hold. It would have been nice to just sit out in the sun and enjoy a few beers but of course because it's a Japanese resort they had no al fresco options available...
panhead_pete 27
The snow here yesterday was soft, until your slam (grateful for the helmet) and lots of fun. Much better then all but one day I have had in Aus. Still hoping for some pow soon though.
@tokyo 14
Seiously I find it had to believe that anyone - other than a person who wants to 'sell' a place - can be positive about skiing getting soaked in heavy rain on shite snow. I'd rather be in a meeting at work. And that is saying something.
cal 6
Originally Posted By: Mamabear 4+ hours and able to be decided depending on conditions is most definitely on your doorstep Well we obviously have a different feeling for the meaning of "on your doorstep"! A 4+ hour trip each way plus needing accommodation sure ain't on my doorstep!
Go Native 70
cal MB is in Perth. They consider anything less than a couple of days travel 'on your doorstep'
muikabochi 208
Heavy rain in this part of Niigata now and it looks set in. I hope people have fun but I sure won't be going out in it! I suppose 10 minutes is on my doorstep.
panhead_pete 27
Its a 2 day trip from Perth, I'd much rather be "just" 4 hours away. Oh wait, Im already here LOL.
cal 6
So what, exactly?
IIIII 2
Er, so, smoke, mirrors, talking about distance aside..... will anywhere be decent this weekend? I suppose it's a no.
Go Native 70
I'd say a definite, resounding no but then I don't know all the areas down south. Is anywhere missing out on the rain?
