muikabochi 208
Another beautiful blue sky day and so I thought I would hit a local resort... I decided to have a very gala morning at Gala Yuzawa. And gala it was too. Not busy at all, decent snow. Nice. Merry Christmas! I'm off to drink some wine.

thursday 1
Muika, yout photos would make a great database for the resorts. Wow, top pic of second post; that is really narrow and it kinda looks steep. I'm imagining many stacks there.
muikabochi 208
It isn't that steep but you can certainly get some good speed up on that run. Gala is a funny place. Like today with hardly anyone around, I really like it. The snow is good and there are some good courses that suit me good. But on a holiday when there's lots of people, it's really awful because of those fairly narrow slopes. Not recommended at all. I can't think of another resort that goes from being so much fun to being so annoying as pronounced as does Gala. On days like today though, I really like it. And some fine views as well as can be seen.
thursday 1
But anyway. A gala time was had. And so that's what counts.

muikabochi 208
Oh yes I meant to mention - I know the south area of Gala is still closed but I noticed the ropeway from Kogen to that area moving yesterday... just testing or something?
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan#Andrew 6 Posted December 26, 2009 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted December 26, 2009 Hi muikabochi, excellent photos again. I believe they test the ropeway fairly often to keep it going. If all goes to plan, it will be operating as it should be next season when that south area opens up again. That will be big news for Gala, that south area was a lot of fun.
RobBright 35
Yeah, have never been there in the time that I have been in Japan.
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan#Andrew 6 Posted December 26, 2009 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted December 26, 2009 When I went to Gala ages ago thats where I was most of the time. It's the most challenging area of the resort and often lots of ungroomed fairly steep areas to play in. It will be good to see it back open.
best skier in hakuba 5
Very fine. Is it all courses over there or areas off available?
muikabochi 208
I see. It will definitely be good to see that south area open again. Almost forgotten what it's like! Not much "off couse" in Gala that I know about.
