ShinyDiscoBall 2
Just read this Quote: Almost two million Britons have been saved from unemployment after accepting pay cuts or choosing to work part time. Record numbers of people have seen their pay frozen or cut as firms fight the recession and stave off redundancies, according to internal Treasury figures. Others have voluntarily moved to part-time positions rather than lose their jobs, with official statistics showing a record one million people who want to work full time are now unable to secure anything other than reduced hours work. The Treasury calculates that by accepting these measures 1.7 million who might have been made redundant in the recession have been saved from the dole queue. However, as a result income tax receipts have collapsed. Wonder how that's playing out in Japan? Do salaries get cut here or is it one of those things that 'doesn't happen'? Mine has basically stayed the same the last few years. Any personal experience in the last year or so? Different jobs/promotions don't count!

SantaCruz 0
Rough year for MS, cut 5000 people and no merit based raises for anyone. Only way to get a bump in pay is a promotion. It'll be interesting what happens during the next annual review.

korbzy 0
I work in the Steel industry in Australia and it did go downhill for half a year but now its going back up and we have an EBA of 5% pay rises every year for 3 years
bobby12 0
same here - 6 months of poor results but now looking OK. Thankfully no pain for us in terms of salary cuts etc, this is the benefit of being in a company with a family feel and conservative growth target. Of course we miss out when economy is booming though.

BagOfCrisps 24
Lots of people around me with cuts at the moment. It's pretty much close to the norm. I have survived with the same and hopefully a raise in March.
korbzy 0
yea, alot of companies have either made people redundant or have stopped pay rises and things will start to pick up in the next few months. More pay rises and jobs!

thursday 1
There are such things as "guranteed" bonuses on contracts. This was to attract the best into the company. I have had them, so too my wife.
thursday 1
That's not to say I am anywhere near the best. But apprently my wife is. Bitch.
JA2340 16
But surely you can see that a "guaranteed bonus" is simply an additional salary? The "bonus" does not depend on performance. The way to attract the best people is to make sure that their bonuses are stupendous, but tied to performance. That way you'll get the people who are prepared to make decisions in the best interests of the company's profits.
thursday 1
People want a certainty I suppose. Why should I come to your company? etc. It looks ridiculous, but it is an attraction.
JA2340 16
Should be illegal, though, Making bonuses a "guaranteed" income stream. Can you not see the wierdness of a "bonus" that is not dependent on performance? They are actually called "performance bonuses", too!
thursday 1
I don't see anything wrong with it. If it's in the contract, then it's in the contract. They could of course call it "monkey penis transplant allowance guranteed payout whether you go through with the procedure or not". But a bonus sounds better no?
