BagOfCrisps 24
Zao? YOU EAT IN YOUR HOTEL!
muikabochi 208
Or buy onigiri at the conbini!
BagOfCrisps 24
Or, if you don't like onigiri, you can buy a sandwich. Unless they are sold out of course.
Tubby Beaver 209
how about niku-man and pizza-man......surely Zao Conbini's sell these tasty winter morsels?

BagOfCrisps 24
I reckon they will always have some crisps in stock though, so no need to fret.
BagOfCrisps 24
No prawn cocktail though.

Thundercat 60
Actually there are a few options around town to eat out in. I found two different izakayas that had some really tasty eats. I also remember seeing a pizza place and a western looking bar that served food (can't comment on the quality because we never went in). We could also order from our hotel menu if we gave them a bit of notice.
muikabochi 208
When I went this last season, late Feb, there was one izakaya open and one other place that did the usual kare-raisu. That was it. Everything else shut up and dark. Ghost town it was. Of course I really like Zao, but that aspect ain't good! Just as long as you are prepared for it before you go
Thundercat 60
Yeah I was there at the beginning of Feb... and only for three nights...
muikabochi 208
Yes I remember your account and pics.
ceecee 0
Thanks Black Mountain and muikabochi. Even if there is one or two places open it suits us fine. Some people in our group dont like the idea of having to eat the same thing in the hotel for 5 nights in a row...
@tokyo 14
You might need to change hotels for that
ceecee 0
LOL I think we'll just stick to the one hotel and deal with eating the same food for 5 nights. Thanks!
iiyamadude 6
You might be lucky. They might have 2 different meals.
ILoveZao 8
Nearly time for a new thread perhaps but anyway, very autumn like now in Zao nice and cool
kintaro 0
Oh how I miss my days at Zao!!!
skip 0
This place is on the list. The only downer, and perhaps a breaker, is that there's not much else around. Looks like a great place though.
SKI 15
Worth 3-4 days I reckon.
SKI 15
Might need it, for the weather
ILoveZao 8
Yes if only the weather was clearer more... But then, we wouldn't get our monsters! Hope that you time it well when you come.
muikabochi 208
Even with quickly changing mountain conditions, it changed quick when I was there. One moment couldn't see a thing, short while later amazing blue skies. I know I like the scenery perhaps more than some others and it's a big part of the experience for me, but I'd be gutted if I went to a place like Zao and didn't get to see anything. Zaoman 0
You just need to be there for at least a few days. Chill out in onsen and just relax, a good place to do that. Watch out for the mad nightlife though
