rsser 0
Hi all, Spent some time there last year which sparked the appetite for more o/s adventures, so Hokkaido in Feb. is on the menu. The plan was to do 5 days guided BC touring around the Tasman Glacier but time constraints and a poor weather forecast cut that down to 1 - still freakin awesome though. Then we spent 3 days touring in the Two Thumb Range near Tekapo. This was very 'spring' snow as it was early Oct. At the start of the trip I spent two days at the club field Broken River in the Craigieburns, and at the end one day at Cardrona outside of Wanaka. The snow there turned to elephant snot with the rain that started falling and I went down, trashed a knee and came home on crutches. After all the rehab I now have thighs of steel which is handy for a telemarker. Trip pics here: clicky

rsser 0
Tsk. With the current exchange rate and advance flight bookings it's not that exxy. Shared car hire is cheap. They speak a kind of English over there too ;-}

rsser 0
Thanks Roscoe. Yeah, it's a great place for skiing. On piste of course but the back-country is genuinely awesome. Here's a written account of my trip: http://ern.reeders.net.au/blog/new-zealand-backcountry-ski-trip-2008 And in respect of costs, Air NZ gives you a 10kg sports bag allowance on top of the normal. Makes it easy.
