AET 0
Looks like they are considering a bid. As an idea, sounds like it could go that one certainly got potential to get a lot of attention.
thursday 1
2020. Heard about it this morning. Sounds good.
RobBright 35
Indeed - should be a shoe-in really. 75th Anniversary of the Nuclear bomb being dropped on them, Olympics as a symbol of peace. Reckon 100% they'll get it.
Yuki's Passion 1
Thatd be an interesting combo. Those places are separated by about 3 beers on the Shinkansen and then another 1 or 2 by the Tokkyu from Fukuoka. Itd be a great way to promote peace and both cities have a very different vibe. Thatd be cool, Id love to go back to Hiro/Nagasaki for that!
HelperElfMissy 42
Excellent. But will we still be here? Isn't the world supposed to end in 2012

thursday 1
It would be really strange as the yanks walk their flag in the opening ceremony.

muikabochi 208
Sounds like an interesting idea that. They would surely have a really good chance of getting it if their basic infrastructure etc was up to standards.
Zer0star 0
Sounds good at first but it's not going to happen. IOC has specific guidelines in place saying that only one city can hold the Olpympics. Can't be shared. Bid ends right there. Logistical problems because of the distance between the two places and lack of accommodation don't help either. Now if Japan could actually get some public support behind their bids then they would have a better chance. Also, why does everyone want to turn the Olympics into a political statment??? muikabochi 208
If the bid ends right there, any amount of public support wont matter will it. If those are the rules perhaps they are silly trying. Did the World Cup have such a rule before it ended up being Japan/Korea?
thursday 1
Rules are for bending, breaking, ignoring. The spirit of sport knows no rules. :barf: I look forward to the "extinguish the flame" event which is a great way to celebrate the coming together of humanity.
RobBright 35
They could light the torch from that flame

For the 2002 world cup, originally Japan and Korea were seperate bids but FIFA told them to co-host it. It seemed like it worked alright from the outside but there was way too much bickering and now FIFA has disallowed any future joint bids.
bobby12 0
They can just pick one of Nagasaki or Hiroshima, no big deal.
NoFakie 45
Sounds good in theory, but it'll load them up with debt like it everyone else. Lots of the money for the Olympic Games in London is being redirected from community sports projects that were originally earmarked for the Lottery money. Its elitism gone crazy for sports 95% of people don't care about.

So how comes they have allowed Portugal and Spain, as well as Belgium and the Netherlands, to bid together for the 2018 and 2022 world cups?
thursday 1
The London olympics were hurdled with that logo from the start.
Tubby Beaver 209
Tokyo doesn't need the Olympics. They've already hosted them, let some other place do it. Hiroshima or Nagasaki, even Osaka but not Tokyo. Don't think FIFA have stopped joint bids for World Cups, think thats a porky pie
