IIIII 2
Hey does anyone know what the minimum wage is here? Is it 800 yen an hour? I'd be interested to hear what they are in other countries too. Cheers.
RobBright 35
Varies from region to region and job to job.
HelperElfMissy 42
Australia's Federal Minimum Wage is $543.78 per week for fulltime employment (or $14.31 per hour).
Jynxx 4
I thought Australia doesn't have a minimum wage anymore, and it's union dependent, age discriminated... tell me if I am wrong I haven't worked for a while.
Go Native 70
Up here in Hokkaido there are people working for as little as Y600 per hour!!

I think the minimum wage varies from prefecture to prefecture but its about 600 yen or so in many of them. For average wages, I seem to remember Hokkaido and Okinawa being lowest. RobBright 35
Heard it was Miyazaki but those two wouldn't surprise me. Screwing over the natives.
thursday 1
I saw some 7-11 jobs go for 900 per hour in Tokyo. Was a bit tempted.
snowdude 44
Around these parts I think it starts at around 800 yen /hr for matsuya type of restaurants.
Jynxx 4
Shit man. 30 years ago was 500 Yen for coffee shops and retail work. night time Macdonalds was 800 Yen. Last year I saw some 1100 Yen for late night convini in Tokyo. Wages really haven't gone up for casual work (inc. english teaching) in Japan.
bobby12 0
yes but neither have prices.
HelperElfMissy 42
Just bizarre that the perception of Japan being hideously expensive persists then really isn't it! I can't tell you how many people have said something about not thinking about going to Japan because they heard someone say a coke was about $20 Aussie Dollars!! [maybe they didn't mean the drink! Bwahahhahaha]
Go Native 70
Japan was expensive at the height of the bubble at the end of the 80's. The rest of the world moved on since then and had growth and inflation, Japan didn't. It can be incredibly cheap to live here.
big-will 7
Seems to be 800-1000 yen on the signs I see.
Jynxx 4
That's what I saw, too. Public transport is still cheap and that's really good.
stemik 14
dont quote me on this but i heard minimum wage in Japan is set by.... How much an average lunch costs in the certain prefecture. Obviously Tokyo lunches are more expensive than Aomori's

indosnm 0
Inflation doesn't exist that's why pay doesn't increase. Here even though it's only 3% pa some labour and food (most) is just outta control. Japan is waaay cheaper.
thursday 1
Min wage doesn't work. I would oppose it here.
RobBright 35
Min wage only works if all companies were equal and above board.
