HeatherLocklearRocks 1
OK lets play a game. No lying or stretching the truth allowed. I want the time it would take to get to the ski resorts below on departing from Narita whether it be train/bus or other plane. - Niseko - Furano - Zao - Yuzawa - Myoko - Nozawa - Shiga Kogen - Hakuba Feel free to add any others. Please only answer if you KNOW the answer. Go!!
muikabochi 208
OK I'll start with Yuzawa Train from Narita to Tokyo/Ueno - about 1 hour Getting to shinkansen/waiting around - min. 30+ minutes Shinkansen to Yuzawa - about 80-85 minutes Yuzawa station to resort - closest is 5 minutes (lets say Gala Yuzawa). So, from leaving Narita to arriving at a ski resort in Yuzawa, in total you're looking at a minimum of just over 3 hours given good connections.
gareth_oau 2
Narita-Tokyo by Narita Express 1 hour Tokyo to Nagano by shinkansen 2.5 hrs Nagano to hakuba by bus 40mins say 4.5 hours, plus wait time
muikabochi 208
We should really include a minimum wait time like I did with Yuzawa above. That gives us a realistic thing to compare.
HeatherLocklearRocks 1
Agreed, please include waiting/transfer times - perhaps the minimum it takes given good connections - to give a realistic total time.

Depends on a number of things. A little research with times and knowing where you are going can make a huge difference.
HeatherLocklearRocks 1
Very vague! Anyone who doesn't feel the need to minimise the time got any good Hakuba numbers?
iiyamadude 6
Nozawa Narita to Tokyo Narita express - about 1 hour Wait/transfer - at least 20 mins Tokyo to Nagano Shinkansen - at least 90 minutes Wait/transfer - at least 20 mins Nagano to Nozawa - 40 minutes Get to skijo - bit more All in all, it can be done in around 4 hours in ideal conditions, but will usually take more than that depending on connections etc
iiyamadude 6
For Shiga Kogen add another 20 minutes or so perhaps
thursday 1
Niseko, 25 minutes from the moment you pick up your baggage and clear customs. 35, if they search your bags. 45, if you stop to stock up on beer and sake for the transfer
iiyamadude 6
What are you talking about thursday? Perhaps a proper timeline would be good don't you think.

Shinkansen leaves every half hour. Narita to Hakuba - I have done it in 220 minutes. 3.6hours Without planning - up to 325 minutes. 5.4hours
iiyamadude 6
For Hakuba I would say on average add about 1 hour to the actual travel times. Could be more could be less depending on schedules of course. So perhaps around 4 and a half hours in total is a good number to settle on.
Sciclone 2
Shiga Kogen Narita Terminal 2 (flights from Australia) to Keisei Ueno 62mins on the Keisei skyliner Couple of minutes to walk from Keisei Ueno to Ueno (JR). A half hour wait.. Ueno to Nagano (Asama shinkansen) 103mins Bus from Nagano to Ichinose ~70mins. So total, including waiting times, you are looking at about 4.5 hours. We usually get in late afternoon/early evening to Narita though, so it's easier on our bodies to spend an overnight in Tokyo..
gareth_oau 2
oh, and I only had to wait 10 minutes at Hakuba for the guy from the hotel at happo to come pick me up and 10 mins back to the hotel - great service!! (Hotel de L'aille)
RobBright 35
Why not just use jorudan to find out the times? Narita Express to Tokyo is 76mins Then as people said 30mins change over Tokyo to Gala Yuzawa is 96mins Tad over 3hrs - something like 3:15hrs but again all depends on connections and how well you know where you are going.
TJ OZ 0
It depends on your times however Narita express can be under an hour to Tokyo. How long does it take to get from the shink to the lifts at Gala.
muikabochi 208
It can be under an hour but very rarely is. Correct me if I am way off there. Every time I take it, it's just over an hour. For Yuzawa there's 1 train a day that does it in I think 67 minutes or something and it is by far the quickest. Most others are reaslistically 77 minutes or more. It's just annoying marketing smoke and mirrors that companies latch onto that. I have little respect for companies that do that and do what I can to use/go elsewhere, places that are more 'sincere' for want of a better word.
muikabochi 208
Quote: Tokyo to Gala Yuzawa is 96mins There may well be a 96 minutes Tokyo to Gala Yuzawa, Rob, but it would be one of the slowest Shink rides in a day. I would say the average from Tokyo to Yuzawa would be 80 minutes. Add 5 minutes to get to GALA Yuzawa.

If you mean the Echigo Yuzawa Station, it's a 5 minute or so bus ride to GALA Yuzawa base, 5 minutes to get to the Gondola and then 5 minutes on the Gondola to the resort. Yyonnx 0
Narita to Niseko: Narita Aeroport to Haneda Aeroport using Narita Express train into Tokyo Station 60mins; and then local train from there to Haneda 30 mins Haneda Aeroport to Chitose Aeroport, Sapporo, Hokkaido; by plane 90 mins Chitose Aeroport to Hirafu, Niseko by bus 150 mins
RobBright 35
But as you said MB - not many Shinks do it insuch a short time - especially as on the joetsu from Tokyo, you have about 6/7 stations it stops at annoyingly. Think I have only got that super quick Shink. perhaps twice. Again all that smoke and mirrors as you said.
RobBright 35
Surely the bus from Narita Airport to Haneda Airport would be quicker. Only takes an hour I think and dumps you at the departure hall.
Yyonnx 0
never done the narita-haneda leg of the journey but according to colleagues that have, the bus can be a nightmare due to traffic; but yes, it can be 30 mins faster
