mikelowry 0
Gday all, Word is this year may be an El Nino year? Anyone out there know how this impacts / has impacted historically on the snow in our beloved Japan?
lin 0
I think the bugs and jellyfish are more reliable. Any word from them yet?
thursday 1
The last one was 2006, how can it come round again in less that 12 years. this may help: El Nino thread
foreversnow 5
If the last El nino was 2006 - if you read the archives it was a HUGE year 4.85mt base with 30-40cm average. Wasn't the 2005/06 season the one everyone still talks about?? WOW if that is what happens in El Nino BRING IT ON!!!
gerard 6
I remember 2005/06. I went up to Hokkaido to ski on a three-meters base in December which was awsome but I could have stayed in south-western Japan coz they had at least that much pretty much everywhere.
snowdude 44
I was in Niigata during part of the 05/06 season, everything was buried! Was awsome!! Come Sep / Oct I should be able to tell you how this season is going to pan out, till then have to be patient!
cram400 0
05/06 in the Yuzawa area was ridiculous.. it didn't stop snowing.. the snowfall levels were evident from the amount of snow piled up on the side of the streets.
sanjo 2
....as were the levels this last season with the almost complete lack of snow piled up on the side of the roads! Lets hope we get another 05/06 like season
Tubby Beaver 209
yeah I'd be more than happy for Yuzawa (and all Japan) to get 05/06 levels!!!

cram400 0
i believe these pics from the SJ gallery are from the Yuzawa/Niigata area from the 05/06 season.. copious amounts of snow, indeed.. http://www.snowjapan.com/e/gallery/index-snowy-japan.html
foreversnow 5
Just an idiot question?? What caused the 05/06 season?? Was this considered normal for Japan or Above Normal?

foreversnow 5
I would believe we are going into an El Nino as the weather has been totally spassy lately. Today is a balmy 26oC and it is the middle of winter - last week was cold with rain - weekend is windy and cold and then we seem to be back to above normal winter temps. Who cares as long as Japan has BIG DUMPS of snow!!
HelperElfMissy 42
We've certainly had lots of dry and warm, up until this past two weeks when it has been seriously dumping rain. seems quite el nino like to me...
hellyer 216
Here in Oz we are in the middle of an El-Bruno. Sacha Baron-Cohen (AKA Borat, Ali-G) is here promoting his new movie.
