iiyamadude 6
I believe it it true about Makinoiri. If only those 2 resorts got on and worked together. As it is, they don't and half the mountain will apparently be closed.
NoFakie 45
So those two in the picture don't have a joint ticket!? All too typical inaka intransigence at work there, people. They'd rather run the place into the ground than have anything to do with that lot over there.
iiyamadude 6
There is/was I believe a joint ticket but you'd hardly know it. They don't mention each other on their sites. They dislike each other loads of politics apparently. Ever so silly.
Thundercat 60
Reminds me a bit of the ridiculous situation between Akakura Kanko and Akakura Onsen. Neighbouring resorts that have recently started to enforce the boundaries between them.
HelperElfMissy 42
Really bad for business that - people love linked resorts and 'all-mountain' passes - they think they are getting better value (and often are). They will stay longer because they get bored less. We forked out for an all mountain pass in Switzerland so that we could go up and over into Italy - we had a 2 week pass, and only went up and over on one day (some days the top was closed due to weather which meant we didnt do it more than once) - they got quite a bit extra cash out of us x 6 for the flexibility of being able to go when we wanted - yet we only did it one day. But we still felt we got value in our tix. Win for the resort - win for us....its not hard.
iiyamadude 6
You'd really think they would max. it out but no ---- more like ignore each other as much as possible.
best skier in hakuba 5
Too bad about that. Those two places together made it a fairly decent sized place.
scouser 4
I thought it was one place!
stemik 14
Highland Ski Resort in Hakuba is up for sale....a cool $1,000,000 - includes the hotel as well.
thursday 1
my word. That is not a lot of money.
stemik 14
must be loosing a lot of money, only two very slow lifts. But hotel seems to do ok, nice onsen with good views
thursday 1
stem, that is a nice looking piece of real estate. What would be the liklihood of a local gaijin running the place with a silent partner?
NoFakie 45
Big taxes methinks. The outside onsen there now has a roof on it. It used to get a bit lukewarm in winter. Great views though.
the skiing onion 0
Is that 1 million $ or yen? And they give it to you to take it on, right? Just checking the details.
stemik 14
is the about the equivalent of about $1,000,000 US. I really don't know too much about it the sale.....but really it must be loosing a lot of money...and they might even be back taxes to pay. I will ask around to find some more info... Ok so i asked a few questions......I got the sums wrong. its about 3,000,000US$ that includes the hotel and ski lifts. The ski area land is owned by different people and will be leasehold. And if fellow SJs were interested, maybe a 200k each. Even happier. Of course, I'd be the one naming the restaurant and tending bar, whereas some lass needs to be at reception and a local gaijin would be concierge.
BagOfCrisps 24
Rather you than me mate. Anywhos, it's $3m
Jynxx 4
Yeah, and with that kida money you can stay anywhere you like and forget about all the baggage running the place. Easy call.
sanjo 2
Not a resort, but I heard that those guys in Yuzawa doing the travel thing and bar have are no longer. You know anything about that SJ/muikabochi?
muikabochi 208
I don't know the full story but I believe they have shut up shop and are no more, the company and the bar.
muikabochi 208
I see Pine Valley has gone public with the not opening this season thing. Not heard anything else on Kandatsu of late.

That does not surprise me. I got the distinct impression they were all talk and little substance. Heard a few less than satisfied reports as well.
