Tubby Beaver 209
what were they doing?? Are there many bars in Yuzawa? Seems to be full of ryokans and hotels but can't think of seeing an actual bar.
muikabochi 208
It was the foreign owned travel company that was in Yuzawa, and they owned a bar on the main onsen road in Yuzawa. The company and bar are no longer with us, so I believe.
thursday 1
could've been the snow that killed them.
big-will 7
Or lack of decent product!
SKI 15
But interesting to hear that I didn't know. Myoko Pine Valley on their website that they're not opening this winter.
TheOriginalMyoko 0
Yep baibai Myoko Pine Valley. Wasn't the main one so maybe it might be good for the remaining ones.
RobBright 35
Do you mean snodeck?
muikabochi 208
No - the bar being talked about was Bottle Bar, near Yuzawa Ropeway. Well it was, it isn't there anymore. But, on the subject of Snodeck, that is not opening this winter either. Closed as well.

Tubby Beaver 209
Really? That guy owns a bar in Tokyo anyways right?
muikabochi 208
Yes really. Don't know about Tokyo bars.
RobBright 35
Shame as wanted to stay there this winter - due to being almost ripped off for flights it looks looks like another xmas in Japan.
frannyo 2
Sad to hear about Snodeck, thought that was quite popular and the gaijin friendly place.
NoFakie 45
Shame to hear about gaijins shutting up. All things begin equal, I would have thought more English speakers in Niigata would help them raise their profile and get more o/s customers in. With the access from Tokyo, Niigata must be a good choice for some people. Especially those who would like to fit a bit of skiing into a principally "visit Japan" holiday. sanjo 2
Yes it is. And you are right Mr Wiggles. Snodeck was popular. The other company probably went at it and spent way too much right from the start to ever have a hope of making a go of it. Having said that I don't know the full story just guessing from what I have heard.
muikabochi 208
A juicy grape on the vine told me that Kandatsu might actually open again this season - with new owners willing to give it a try. Not any consolation for all the people owed money perhaps but..
SKI 15
Interesting. So not Pine Ridge then...
muikabochi 208
I think the days of Pine Ridge are behind us. Expect a name change.
muikabochi 208
It's official now. Kandatsu is going to open for the season. New company, new name. Well, old name actually ---> back to the original "Kandatsu Kogen Skijo".
SKI 15
Interesting. I will probably go. Wonder if they'll open up that other lift that has been idle for a long time. Doubt it I suppose.
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan#Andrew 6 Posted November 11, 2009 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted November 11, 2009 Yes it has been officially announced now that it is going back to it's original Kandatsu Kogen name with a new company behind it. The new logo looks rather familiar as well, here it is: It's good to hear that Kandatsu is going to be opening, lots of people in Yuzawa were worrying that it wouldn't and for a time it looked like the chances were slim. oo 1
Will owed people be paid?
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan 178 Posted November 11, 2009 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted November 11, 2009 No.
muikabochi 208
Lots of people owed as well I heard. Anyway. I was in Yuzawa yesterday and 2 things I noticed. The Blue Ball Bar (I think that was the name, never been) seems to have closed down too with a estate agent sign gone up looking for tenants. Perhaps having a bar in Yuzawa ain't so good business. The MacDonalds on Route 17 seems to be closed as well. The giant packet of chips that was over the door has been taken down as well as all the signage and it looked like they were preparing to take the building down or renovate it. Gourmet lovers will be distressed.
