muikabochi 208
Well yes of course I understand that. In my case I am lucky in that I can often choose when I go. In that situation, awesome snow conditions on a bright sunny day when I can take my photos vs the same snow conditions during a blizzard with zero visibility? Sounds like a no-brainer to me. Even without the photos though, the last few times I have been out in a blizzard I haven't particularly enjoyed it so I decided not to bother any more.
mina2 6
Back to Naeba. Going there at the end of January so I'll report back. Conditions should be excellent there and Kagura though now.
iiyamadude 6
All this snow will also hopefully mean decent conditions - or at least cover - for a fairly long season. I remember that made snow 4/5 years ago though. After January it pretty much dried up then and it ended up quickly melting.
Tubby Beaver 209
I love the powder thats everywhere but don't enjoy the white out. Sometimes its very hard to see the lay of the land and you almost end up with your knees through your jaw when you hit a hump!! Saying that I'll take it if that means a day in beautiful powder snow!! thursday 1
I just cannot believe nobody (from SJ) is at Naeba as of now.
muikabochi 208
Perhaps they neglect their duties and go on radio silence while there. Bit like you in Tomamu.
thursday 1
no way. They need to make a TR as soon as they return.

muikabochi 208
No, there are quite a lot. In this region anyway. Last year there were more of them than there were snowy ones. This season, not many sunny days yet but I am sure they will come.
muikabochi 208
For this region check out Yuzawa Now and Naeba Now and you will see that to be the case.

In my experience they are extremely rare in Japan. I can only recall one in Hakuba last season.
muikabochi 208
Lots of them too. My favourite kind of day.
tripler 0
They're everyone's favourite but there aren't lots of them in Japan unless you define "lots" as "one or two per season". A look at your Yuzawa link for January 2008 shows 3 fine weather days, none with any fresh snow. Er, yeah lots...
muikabochi 208
Tell you what tripler, you just believe what you have decided to believe and I'll just get out there and enjoy them when they happen. Feel free to enjoy looking at the photos I post from some of those days as well if you want.
joshnii 2
I always though the season lasted from December until April or even May....
tripler 0
couldn't be bothered trawling through 4 months of archives. I think one month of a good snow year is a fair sample.
joshnii 2
Anyway, ignoring the troll, how about next weekend muikabochi? Any room at the inn?
muikabochi 208
Sounds good. Come on down! Even better, looking like mid-weeek might be good if you can wangle that. Give me a call, I'm in all today.

Tubby Beaver 209
I bet that natural pipe slope off the side of naeba would be quality just now with all the powder that has fallen!!
