frannyo 2
...or were they just being silly? Today I was at Joetsu Kokusai in Niigata and there was a group of about 40 people who were skiing without poles. They had one hand on their head and one hand on their waist - alternating turning left and right. Looked silly but they were all doing it so I thought perhaps it's some learning technique? (Got some photos of Joetsu Kokusai, will upload them in a few days)

snowdude 44
I have seen similar things before, a lot when they are learning to ski, the instructors make them ski without poles to help their balance I guess!
frannyo 2
Thanks. They did look silly. Funny thing was, they all seemed like fairly decent skiers too.

HelperElfMissy 42
Its even funnier watching a middle aged woman being a teapot on a snowboard because her snowboard instructor told her too!!! (yeah that would have been ME - wouldnt catch me doing it now though!!!)
nippontiger 8
I saw some people in a ski school skiing while holding there poles straight across the knees. I tried it, but not sure I could do it properly. I dont know what skill this technique practices... Maybe I should take a lesson some time!

PWL 0
Well I am resigned to looking silly when I first get out there. Quite looking forward to it actually. The sillier the better!
