yoroshiku onegai shimasu 2
It is expensive, but it has an excellent reputation - "Learn & Master Guitar by Steve Krenz". It's a 20 DVD + CD + book serious guitar course. Costs about $200 but might be better than any number of books and playing around yourself. I have heard many a good thing about it. thursday 1
damn, can you sample the DVD first, and opt out after the 2nd DVD.
Pete the Shoemaker 0
My friend used that - he loved it and is actually quite a competent guitarist now in a fairly short period of time. He said it was well worth the $200.
r45 4
OK I spent a few hours looking at that and reviews and went and ordered it. With the exchange rate it will only be about 20,000 yen inc. postage which I can cope with. Looking forward to starting on that.
r45 4
The package arrived. First impressions - wow, good looking package. I'll be taking a look over things tonight and hopefully get started tomorrow!
thursday 1
think you're expected to be advanced by next week.
r45 4
Haha. I think I have begun to realise the amount of effort that will be needed. But I'm going to give it a good go.
r45 4
Just in case anyone interested... I went through the first session of this DVD course last night. It was about 50 minutes long with another 40 minutes supplemental exercises DVD. Really good. It's so much better than reading and trying to learn from a book. This guy is a really kind teacher! I know it's only very early but the first impressions are good. Interesting though how this course is starting off quite differently from what my book was telling me to do. Seriously I have high expectations now if I stick with this. He says do 15-30 minutes a day 5 days a week and that's what I will do.
r45 4
Been rocking to Jingle Bells and Ode To Joy tonight. Slowy.
charlotte 0
What! Haven't you put a Youtube video up yet?
r45 4
It's going slowly..... learning guitar ain't easy, I have learnt!
gerard 6
Kind of like learning a language, really.
jared 0
sounds like you have your learning sorted but if people are looking for other resources then the spytunes.co.uk vids on youtube and their website have been helping me a bit lately.
r45 4
Yes I'm all sorted with learning - I could not imagine a better tool to learn with than the DVD course I have (other than private lessons on call). It is excellent..... I'm not!!! >>>>>>>>>>>Kind of like learning a language, really. Yes!
sunrise 0
I'm going to check those two recs out - my 12 yr old nephew is interested and I'm looking around for things for him sans having a teacher.
r45 4
If $200 isn't a problem I would totally recommend my DVD course. I think it's great, I just need to up my practice time.
sunrise 0
kool. Though he's only 12, and looking at the site it might be too comprehensive for him at this stage to hold his interest, but we'll see. I might have to get it first and check it out, I've been half seriously thinking about getting a cheap axe myself and trying to improve my own not-very-good guitar skills for sketchpad recording purposes, though I'd have to find the time first, but I did take lessons for 2 years when I was a kid, so if I go ahead, at least I'm not an absolute beginner.... At any rate, it looks good, so does the the Learn & Master drums!
RusholmeRuffian 0
I'm learning too - having some lessons. It's a struggle but I just really want to be able to play. Wish I had learned when I was younger.
r45 4
Still struggling on.... learning guitar is not easy!

r45 4
16 months later. Oh dear, I would still call myself a beginner. Perhaps advanced beginner. Love it, but difficult. But I am feeling the need to put some real effort in now.
thursday 1
Amazing. Has it been 16 months already? I remember, lets guitar and off you went.
NoFakie 45
Buy extra light gauge strings.
gerard 6
Good that you're still at it. I was back in Canada recently and brought back my old mid 80's made-in-Japan Fender strat from highschool. It was a Van Halen inspired model with only one humbucker and a volume knob. I routed channels and put in two Seymore Duncan single coil pickups for variety and true strat tone. What a beautiful machine it is. Like an old friend that you run into and it seems like time has stood still. Anyway, a big part of learning the guitar is learning about tone and types of guitars and pickups and that sort of thing imo. Good to hear you're enjoying it!
thursday 1
I once held a Les Paul in my hands and thought that was a mighty fine guitar. Wouldn't mind getting one just to hold and pose for photos.
