muikabochi 208
OK my first day of the season. About time too! Last year I took tons of pics from Maiko (Centleisure Maiko to give it the full name) in Minamiuonuma (Niigata), so this time I tried to take 'different' ones. Well, tried. Here's some below. Weather was fantastic. Snow was good up top, crusty below. There's still not that much really, but it's enough for the place to be nearly all open. Good start. Get this, first thing this morning..... I got first runs on there. Sorry no pics of that I was just so so busy Within 30 minutes, it was all cut up. Great while it lasted!

muikabochi 208
It was. First time I've seen it like that and I don't know if they had just been really strict in not letting anyone turn left at the top of the lift or not the day before....suppose they must have been. By my 5th run on there it was all tracked out. Brilliant while it lasted though I wish someone had been able to take pic/vid of ME. Next time I go to Maiko I'll make sure it's after a good dump and be first up on the lifts again and see how things are.

BeerTengoku 35
Is it possible to go there on a one day trip?
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan 180 Posted January 4, 2009 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted January 4, 2009 Yes Rob. It is probably about the same distance from Yuzawa station as Mitsumata is (if not nearer) but in the other direction. Maiko is a 10 minute (in ideal conditions) bus/taxi trip from the main Echigo Yuzawa Station. There are shuttle buses going there from the station. If you are driving, it is really easy. Get off the Kanetsu Expressway at the Shiozawa Ishiuchi IC (which is 5 minutes further on than the Yuzawa IC) and the resort car parks are literally 2 minutes from there. http://www.snowjapan.com/e/japan-ski-town-maps/ishiuchi/ishiuchi.html http://www.snowjapan.com/e/maps/japan-map-and-satellite-photos/niigata-prefecture/yuzawa.html http://www.snowjapan.com/e/maps/japan-ma...o-korakuen.html (Called Maiko Korakurn on the above map, we need to change that)
muikabochi 208
Yes thats about right. Other than the skiing, I think it is offers some of the best scenery in the whole region on a fine day does Maiko.
