WEATHER & SNOW FORECASTS

For the last 4 or 5 years, during the winter season we have presented a basic weekly weather forecast for many of the ski and snowboard resorts throughout Japan. You might remember it looked like this:

For some time now we have been thinking through how we can improve things on the scale that we require. Perhaps with some sadness, it is time to say bye-bye to the little snowmen wearing mysteriously coloured hats and gloves and from today we are happy to have made significant changes to the data that is shown on our resort pages. Here is how it looks now:

As you can see from the above image, a lot more detailed and useful information is presented on the new pages including wind info, predicted snowfall (or rainfall), temperatures, wind chill, freezing level, sunrise and sunset information.

A full 6 day forecast is available by clicking on the TOP, MID and BOTTOM links at the top of the report.

You can check it out on over 250 of our resort pages on the site and here are some samples for popular resorts:

(If you have a webpage you are welcome to link to any of the resort pages if you wish).

PLEASE NOTE:

By default, the forecast for 3+ days appears on the page - each day is split into morning, afternoon and night.

Towards the top of the report you will see links that are called TOP, MID and BOTTOM. If you click on any of these links, a detailed 6-day forecast will appear on the page as an overlay. TOP is data for the top elevation of the resort, BOTTOM is data for the base. MID is the mid-point between those two elevations.

To close the overlay box, please click on the small "X" that you can find in the top right of the overlay area.

We have already implemented this information on over 250 of our ski and snowboard resort pages - including most of the larger resorts in Japan. We are currently working with the data providers to increase that coverage and hope to implement that in the coming weeks.

For more information on this data as well as the other daily weather and snow reporting that we present on our site, please see this page:

We hope you like this change.

(The "Current Snow Depth" and "Resort Status" data presented on the resort pages will begin updating for the season in a week or so - we will post here when that begins).
