Better snow - Nozawa or Shiga Kogen?

Generally, which would you expect to see the better snow at, Nozawa or Shiga Kogen?

I would say generally Shiga Kogen. The snow can be awesome up there. As it can be in Nozawa but lots of SK is higher up. Both great.

I'd rather ski at Nozawa, but the percentages say somewhat better odds for good snow at Shiga. In the end, it all boils down to luck anyway; will it dump on the days when you're there...

I prefered Nozawa too but the snow was drier at Shiga Kogen.

 

It's a great dilemna to have. Which awesome resort should I go to? haha

Yes I'd say so. Even the lowest slope at SK is high up there, whereas with Nozawa it goes down really low to village. Like I said though on a good day they are both awesome.

Pretty much as people have said.

 

On a bad day the bottom of Nozawa can suffer bad much as it can everywhere and thats where Shiga Kogen wins out. They are both fantastic places to be though and within fairly easy reach of each other so you should do both.

On the days I have been (and more to Nozawa that Shiga Kogen) the snow was better at Nozawa.

They both good but I would say Shiga Kogen usually.

Shiga Kogen is a larger resort with a large variety of runs.

 

For me, Nozawa Onsen wins hands down for off piste riding i.e. Yamabiko and the "forbidden valley".

Anyone let me know how far between nozawa and SK by car? Any recommendations at either resort for Ryokans/pensions in the under 10,000 yen bracket? Cheers

1) Fastest - about 40 minutes. Best to think 1 hour or maybe even more in very bad weather.
