if they've made it into a place of interest, then the tarps would be there to protect against water until so sort of water proofing can be done/afforded. Just a guess.

 

Unless of course some dude has moved back in.

Went through Yamakoshi today.

 

Here's the latest on those houses. Getting a lot of growth round them

Had a chat with one of the long term locals.

 

Apparently nothing is being done to "save" these as some kind of memorial and there are calls for them to be brought down and the area cleared up. One group want that to happen and another want it to be preserved as some kind of earthquake memorial and install a little museum type place. So there's a bit of arguing going on.

I don't know actually, haven't heard. But they haven't taken the houses out. There always seems to be quite a few people about when I have been and something going on.
