thanks woy-woy - i had already emailed those guys but they are a bit slow getting back to me with info.... what are they like? i'm guessing being a smaller operation they might be pretty cheap.... ive been looking at using snowave again but their prices seem to have gone up.

alfreg, i booked a 3 week trip with niseko poweder connection in jan/feb last season. i found them to be pretty cheap and very helpful i'd recomend them, they're pretty nice guys. i haven't used snowave before, so i can't comment about them

and last year when i was booking my trip , i always got a response to my emails within 24 hours - i thought that was pretty good

yeah I have always booked with NPC... they seem to be super knowledgable, friendly and a good bunch of guys that out to have heaps of laughs!! plus their chalet is just that bit closer to the lifts, so it makes the early morning trek a little easier carrying a hangover from the debuachurous chalet parties!!

yeah it seems strange that snowaves prices always rise with the yen getting cheaper to buy with the ozzie dollar?? hmmmm

just wish i was theaing there this season....

sorry mogs... i'd go with ya if i could

gee thats strange they havnt got back to you!??

you maybe want to try resending to them... tell 'em to pull their finger out!!

nah dont think they do flights but that is no drama.... all you have to do is go to the travel agent and sort that... then get the train/bus (which they - NPC - usualy book for you) then the rest is just powder and late nights drinking clap.gif

a little tip for flights is to go to/call "smile city travel" in the city (syd)- they specialise in flights to JAP/KOREA and get a price.... i have found these guys to be super cheap no matter the airline, then get flight center to beat it!!! ya cant lose

I booked my trip through Snowave this year and I didn't think it was much (if any) more expensive than previous years, plus I'm getting more lift access than I did before. Much more.

For four weeks it's costing me 5 grand. That includes everything. 3 weeks are all mtn lift passes and 1 week Hirafu. Accom, flights, insurance, everything. Not too bad if you ask me!

Ill do this from what I know about hakuba.

plane ticket can get one for about $1200

train to resort and back $200 depends o the slow or fast type. seasons pass 600 place to stay ie snobeds one month lets say 600 plus buying food and beer an extra 500 to 1000 bucks. dude you got hosed.

1200

200

600

600

1000

3600 and that is over pricing everything.

I had a closer look and I think your right. He has crossed the border between "ski trip" in which you have to pay lots for accom and lift passes and "long ski trip" where a season pass and long term accom discounts apply.

If I was going there for a month and only skiing at Hirafu I just done a budget for 20man $2616 auzzie dollars. but thats with fairly cheap accom at year 2000 prices, dont know if its still available.

airfare 100,000

bus to niseko and back 10,000

month pass 35,000

accom 1 month 25,000

1000 a day for food (no beer)

If he gets the price of lift ticket for a day and the price of accom for 1 night and multiplies by 30 then his 5grand isnt too bad but for long term its a bit steap.

I decided to revsie food budget to 1500 a day but cant be stuffed changing the numbers. Also your accom will be flasher than mine.

opps forgot insurance - add 30,000

wow - you guys are really looking into this stuff in great depth arent you!!

it all comes down to what you want & when... im looking at going during the japan new years holiday season so that makes accom & flights more expensive. but thats when i have to take my holidays so i dont have much choice....

but hey - its great to see what other people are paying & planning when working out your own itinerary... i'll defiantely get to niseko at some stage!

even revised to 1500 you are starving. There is no good way to eat on a mountain for so little unless you like lugging 10 rice balls with you all day and eating the same in the evening.

how many giant pots of nabe can you eat in an evening? (bout 500en per person)

Its not too hard to eat at seikomart for 500en but better food if you get it at the supermarket and make it yourself.

b/fast is almost free with 100en boxes of cornflakes at yamaya.

Dont knock rice balls, they are good.

I have no problems with rice balls. They are an excellent snack and very good for the backpack. Just eating them every day 30 days in a row might be tough.

The rest is not a go at you, just my opinion:

Cornflakes just don't cut it for me as a breaky before a day of heavy exercise. I like minimum several bananas plus some decent muesli (and some rice balls ;\) )

As fop the nabe... better find out more about that deal when I am there.

i think i'd have to agree with SBFreak. $5k isn't that excessive for a month- obviously if you speak japanese well and know where to stay etc it can be done cheaper, but considering the options available to someone from oz, it seems alright

if you compare prices for a month in the US, canada or europe, japan seems quite cheap i reckon

i stayed for a month last season in niseko..booked through deep powder tours..it cost me 3000 for everything. flights, accom, transfers, lift pass for the month.......i thought that was a good deal...also they placed i staye din was really awesome...the people asked me back to work this year for the season....so that 3000 looks like a worthy investment......5 months this year of powder \:\)

man if your happy to part with 5000..then by all means do it..i bet u will have sick accom + all mountain pass.......who cares its only money..u wont think of the cash when your dropping into the peak \:\)

I guess cos most ski trips I do start and end at my house I have kinda got the skiing means eating at home type mentality.

Another trick I have is to drink lots and eat far too much over the summer months. That way I can keep special reserves of energy neatly strapped around my waist. I think of it like a camel back for food.

Dont be all pissed dude. I was just tring to to show another way of going about it.

Being one who loves to ski I know it take alot of cash every year. I plan hard and think.

I guess im of that age where I can see tomorrow as well as today.

I would rather see you ssave that cash and come back another year then see you blow it all at once. So maybe using the term you got hosed was not the right choice of words. enjoy your trip and I wont go talking about money anymore.
