grungy-gonads 54
So we have the best snow ever thread. How about the worse snow. How low have you stooped. (And did you pay for the ticket as well!)
stepchild 0
it sounds as though whistler is having a really hard time at the moment. my friend who is out there now said that the south facing mountains have literally no snow on them. ouch. i paid the equivalent of 4000yen to ride a place in the uk called tamworth dome. it's fake snow, but bad fake snow, or was when i used to go, on par with tama (rip). a 15 second run with a crap dendex kicker. then back to the lift. r45 4
Marunuma, last day of the season (May) some time ago. It was terrible, but it was also the last day.
unit 0
My worst snow was definitely back in Oz. 20hours on a bus from Queensland to Victoria for the pleasure of grinding around over rocks and grass at Mt Hotham. (on the hotham resort's rental boards of course)
gamera 0
20 hours on a bus!!!!!! So if you left Qland at 8 p.m.,you arrived at Mt.Hotham at 4 p.m. next day! What a long bus trip!
unit 0
They let us off now and then. But yeah, 20 painful hours!
sakebomb 0
Been through 2 boards riding the rocks and crud in Hotham and Perisher, definetely up there as worst snow. Actually I not sure it would classify as snow sometimes, ice maybe!
sweets87 0
wow ok in the lower mainland in bc right now including whistler there is like noooooo snow. this season is absolutly stupid. why arnt i in japan right now?
mattlucas 0
This past weekend I skied some horrible snow. But I didn't pay for it. I have skied in some really bad conditions back home in Canada though. W/B - Pouring rain Manning Park - Pouring rain Fernie - Pouring rain Hemlock - Many many many times pouring rain most of them it was a very short day. Even worse is when a cold front comes in after said pouring rain and freezes everything solid.
Yuki's Passion 1
Toque, you sure that wasnt Hiroshima? Thats what its been like before. Ive paid over 5500 for a pass for artificial snow, plus 1000 yen for parking at Saito and Geihoku kokusai. Bet none of you know that Hiroshima has the most expensive lift tixs in the country - most cost a fortune to make all that snow!!
kintaro 0
Gassan, last July (two years ago July was pretty good though).
kintaro 0
Wait, make that June (June 1st to be exact).
marnix 0
Christmas 1989: The snow was actually good up on the glacier but there was no snow on lower altitudes. People were coming from 2 hours away just to get some snow under their feet. So half of vacationing Austria was going to this 1 tiny glacier. The lift lines were so long that if you were lucky you could do 6 runs in 1 day.
flipside 0
The only time I went boarding in Scotland was at Nevis Range. A beautiful Scottish day weather wise, pouring rain. Coming down the mountain felt like surfing a little bit!! Surfing in winter...argh!
boardbaka 3
Probably one of the most shitehouse days I've had was at Concrete Peak in Queenstown NZ....It was more like ice skating than skiing or boarding...not pleasant!
ProbablyaCrazyPerson 2
Been skating a few times in nighta which were just terrible. Nighta always seems to be one extreme - either brilliant or awful.
nzlegend 1
Yep I once went to Mt Hutt supervising a school trip (thank god I didnt pay) it was at the very beginning of the season and there was a 30cm base with jagged rocks poking through everywhere - there was one run open - one run. big-will 7
Probably... definitely nighta is either +++ or ---. When it's really +++ thought it's brilliant. Ishiuchi has great nighta in Niigata.
window-cleaner 0
Worst snow ever? Australian snow. Sorry, just had to get it off my chest. Suffering withdrawl and jealosy of people in Japan.
sanjo 2
That would be right at the end of last season in Yuzawa somewhere, Ishiuchi I think. Terrible it was - as heavy as something really heavy. but it was right at the end (and I had a freebie, so no need to complain!)
X101 0
I learnt to ski in Bulgaria in 1986.( still commie then ) The slope was around 100m loading with a very slight gradient. I was hooked! Everything since has been a party!
merryJim 1
I've never really experienced terrible snow. I must be good at choosing when and where to go.
fukdane 2
Yesterday. Alts.
mattlucas 0
That's to bad Was it icy? Out in Hakuba the rain soaked snow never got a chance to freeze so it was nice and soft below some good powder.
unit 0
I'm with you there fukdane, yesterday was a shocker. Fukushima was like boiler plate. It stayed cold all day and didn't melt. Even worse I hit it after three hours sleep, hungover.
