Greenroome 0
It's wicked fun fangin' around Sapporo on a Momma Cherry, doin' wheelies and skids!
Tubby Beaver 209
How funny is it see those "Tough-guy" high school boys cycling round in gangs on those gay momma charries??!!
Greenroome 0
It sure is gay - in fact it's SUPER gay (I'm assuming that you're thinking of the 'happy and carefree' meaning of 'gay') Riding a Momma Charry is ace. Mine is British racing green with a faux leather seat and beige grips. It's got 'Precious' written on the frame. They sure got that right. I love my Precious, but I must admit I got a bit jealous the other day when I parked it next to one with 'Vigorous' written on it. I'll bet it does wicked endo's.
big-will 7
Are you gay, Greenroome?
Greenroome 0
Happy and carefree (because I'm not being judged by others whilst doing monster wheelies on a ladies bike)? Yes. Homosexual? No.
Ezorisu 0
If you do a wheelie at night on a mama-charin, the rear fender makes sparks on the pavement when you lean it really far back!
thursday 1
that sounds rather macho gay
skidaisuki 0
We really seem to have veered off topic now. How about the big cold air mass heading towards Hokkaido at the moment? That's not gay, it's Siberian!
Ezorisu 0
Okay, how about this then - for the next couple of weekends (and today being a holiday), there is an Autumn festival in Sapporo Odori-koen from block 5 heading West. Lots of food and beer to be had. I had kushi-yaki chicken and pork, a beef and potato croquette, a wagyu beef hamburger, takoyaki, and a Yebisu kuro-nama beer for lunch today. It wasn't exactly cheap, but eating lunch on the grass in the sun on a cool September day is great!
skidaisuki 0
Ezo, I knew this because I was planning to come up to Sapporo last weekend to enjoy exactly that event. Unfortunately ALL the hotels were booked out - and the flights... It was a real bummer not to be able to make it. I love Sapporo and I'm VERY envious of you guys living up there. I have to make my fortune more quickly and retire there to an all-season eco lodge of my own design
Greenroome 0
I went to the Autumn Festival last night and had Sri Lankan Soup Curry, a wagyu beef burger, a wagyu beef steak on rice (that she called 'steaky don') and an insanely fatty sausage thing constructed around a rib. It was all absolutely delicious and I washed it down with a big mug of keg whisky and soda with a wedge of lemon in it from the 7 chome bar. Heaps of fun and a great atmosphere, but I'm spewing I missed the 'Autumn Sweets Fantasy'. Ezorisu, if you dug the burger then you gotta get back down to the same stall for the Steaky-don. It's a very generous sized steak chopped up on rice with Kim-chi and a sensational chilli soy sauce. Only 800 yen, and you can try before you buy. Oh, and good work with the Momma Charry Sparkies - wicked.
Ezorisu 0
I saw the steak booth, but the line was longer than the gelato line. I was curious about the sausage with the bone in it, and that coiled-up sausage on a stick that looked like a meat version of a kid's giant lolly!
thursday 1
oh my god. Stop this now.
foreversnow 5
Great thread good to hear Sapporo is a good city - We are going in February for the Ice Festival. I thought it was going to be just like every other big city but now I am really looking forward to going!
Ezorisu 0
There will be a total party atmosphere going on if you come during the snow festival. Should be all kinds of food and libation to suit your fancy. The other good time to visit in winter is during the December Christmas Market when you can get sausages and hot mulled wine and walk around in the snow eating and drinking! Greenroome 0
Coiled-up lollipop sausages on sticks?
Ezorisu 0
They were selling them along the South side of 7-choume... I think it was the second or third stall form the East end. ...or was it was 6-choume at the other end from the steak place. Pretty sure it was 7. It was a 12cm disc of sausage! Endless Winter 0
I've been to Sapporo a couple of times and loved it. A friend was going to school there and so I had a tour guide for a few days. When on a ski/snowboard trip to Furano, do the train trip from Sapporo to Furano. There's excellent scenery as the train line winds it's way alongside a river offering beautiful views. Good ramen everywhere. If you're ever in transit and at the airport, go to the area where they serve various ramen flavors representing areas of Hokkaido. The very last place all the way to the back serves some the the best ramen I've ever had; The Miso-kakuni. Big chunks of pork that are so soft they melt in your mouth. thursday 1
I try to have 2 meals when I'm at the airport. It's a great foodport
Ezorisu 0
There's another ramen yokocho in the JR Sapporo station... top floor of one of the buildings... was it Esta?
2pints-mate 0
Is there a big different in ramen in different regions of Japan? Or pretty much the same thats on offer?
Tubby Beaver 209
they use different flavoured soups from different areas so it does taste different, but I couldn't tell you from where which soup comes from and if the soup from a specific region is copied in another region, whether the original is better or not....I just slurp it down!! charlotte 0
Same here. I have tasted a lot of different ones but couldn't tell you what was what. Top tip - ask the locals!
skidaisuki 0
Sapporo Ramen is normally miso ramen, my personal favourite. Tonkotsu - smelly, yucky stuff that it is - comes from Kyushu, although there are local varieties that use the same base. Local areas tend to specialise, though sometimes it's a matter of toppings and type of noodles, rather than just a matter of broth. Be sure to try some Sapporo ramen if you get the chance.
