wobbly 0
Hi there, I'm quite new here (so please be gentle) Last season was my first skiing and I was able to get out 6 times. Not got my own gear yet but hoping to and really getting into is next winter. I went to a few places - Kawaba and Marunuma in Gunma and Naeba in Niigata. The snow seemed really good (though I'm no expert) especially in Gunma. I was wondering, generally was last season a 'good one' for snow, average or how would you generally rate it? Thanks. muikabochi 208
Faily good in these parts. Definitely better than the year before, not as much snow as the one before that. Probably 'average' I suppose - which is good.
soubriquet 0
Average to less. I only had to clear 11 metres of snow.
2pints-mate 0
Felt good to me! Locals seemed to say it was decent.
JA2340 16
Waaay more than any Oz resort has EVER had! I'd say it was pretty damned good! But then, compared with rock hopping and mud sliding, ...
skidaisuki 0
It was a fairly good season. My only gripe was that it ended a little prematurely (I hoped for some late season falls in April that never materialised), but I managed to get out more than ever before. Certainly compared to the late-starting 2006-7 season, 2007-8 was a welcome return to form. What keeps me going at this time of year is the prospect of autumn, getting some new gear and watching the skies as the nights get cooler and fresher. The uncertainty of when and where the snow will start is all part of the excitement and attraction. wobbly - keep at it, the more you ski, the more you'll enjoy it!
Ezorisu 0
'07/'08 much better than '06/'07, at least on Hokkaido. Twas a good season in Whistler too.
Oyuki kigan 0
Apparently from the people i talked to, it was a relatively 'average season'. 30 years before or so saw consitently snowier seasons apparently, but that has slowly been in decline.
foreversnow 5
We thought the snow was great but all the locals and people who where regulars reckoned it was an average year. I'm with JA any bad season in Japan is still WAY BETTER than a good season in Aus or NZ!!
HelperElfMissy 42
....>and any snow at all is better than being at work!
thursday 1
the most important time is when you are there. For me it sucked last season.
Tubby Beaver 209
Yeah Thurs you lucked out last year. It seemed that all the snow stopped a week or 2 before you got here. Hopefully this coming year will see you neck deep in the fluffy stuff!! For me it was an awesome year, roll on winter!!
I'm Sexy 0
I think last season was quite good but not one of best. I hope next is also, maybe longer with more fresh snow later in season. That would be good.
gerard 6
Average (which is very good in Japan) but late start on Honshu.
Mike Pow 52
I shoveled 13.5 m in Hirafu Village between the first fall and 29 February. So up to that point, superb. From 01 March through to last fall I shoveled 32 cm, so not so superb (the snow on the ground was still very good though).
rach 1
Late start and early(er than usual) finish, right?
Ezorisu 0
The end seemed to come a little early and unceremoniously fast.
skidaisuki 0
Rach - I don't recall it being a particularly late start last year (certainly not compared 06-07), but it certainly finished quite abruptly. let's hope 08-09 is a full five-month season ahead...
Hokkaidough 4
The last few years have finished up fairly quick.
wary 0
Last season I spend 12 days in Niseko/Rusutsu and then a week in Shiga Kogen/Nozawa. Spinkle in a few day trips and a long weekend in Myoko and you had a great season. Best snow of the season --- Myoko.
