pie-eater 207
Gardeners in London were most likely to get rid of snails over the neighbour's fence A fifth of British gardeners have thrown snails over their neighbour's fence, according to a survey. Some 22% of people questioned for the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) said they had tossed a snail into their neighbour's garden, compared with 78% who said they had not. Londoners were the worst culprits, with 30% admitting they had done it. Gardeners in Scotland were least likely, where 14% admitted they had thrown a snail over a garden fence. ILoveZao 8
Love it or hate it, the Comic Sans typeface makes amateur typographers of us all. Now a new version has appeared, promising to lend credibility to the comic line of typefaces. Comic Neue, designed by Craig Rozynski, is like Comic Sans but has been designed with some key differences that are supposed to make it less unsightly. Rozynski says on his website that the typeface "aspires to be the casual script choice for everyone including the typographically savvy". Do we really need another comic script though? Was Comic Sans really that bad in the first place? If you have been near a computer in the past 20 years, you have likely encountered Comic Sans, the "fun" typeface with rounded edges that appears to be written with a felt-tipped pen. If you are an amateur designer, it's the go-to typeface for just about any occasion that requires a relaxed approach. If you are an experienced designer, it's the last typeface you'd ever use, unless you want to be ridiculed without mercy. Comic Sans, now approaching its 20th anniversary, was originally designed by Vincent Connare for Microsoft Bob, Microsoft's 1995 interface for various iterations of Windows. Microsoft Bob came with a dog that would interact with the user. In the initial version of Bob, the dog offered assistance in speech bubbles using Times New Roman. Connare decided that comic dogs probably wouldn't "speak" that way, and went to work designing something more interesting. He used the hand-drawn characters found in popular comic books like The Dark Knight Returns and the Watchmen series as inspiration for what would later become Comic Sans. Since then, the typeface has been used for everything from physics presentations to papal documents and its popularity is only matched by the disdain some people have for it. People feel so strongly about Comic Sans that there is even a website devoted to banning it entirely. It is this ridicule that prompted Craig Rozynski to redesign the typeface into the new Comic Neue.

oblivion 5
A male passenger was caught groping a woman's breast for five minutes while she slept on a recent British Airways flight from London to San Francisco, police said. The woman, who hasn't been identified, was napping when Vinay Pochampally, reached over from behind, placed his hand down her shirt and made 'skin-to-skin contact' while other passengers watched, according to a U.S. District Court criminal complaint. The incident occurred about two hours into BA Flight 285 on April 15 and Pochampally was allegedly intoxicated at the time. The victim was sitting in row 37, which on a Boeing 747 has a 'bulkhead of the galley and restroom area' behind it. Pochampally, who was assigned to seat 36G, positioned himself in the gap behind row 37 and in front of the bulkhead, FBI Agent Bianca Betz wrote in a sworn affidavit, obtained by The Smoking Gun. 'While in that gap, Pochampally inserted his hand, palm-side down, into the shirt of the sleeping female passenger,' Betz said. The man's hand was 'underneath the passenger's shirt and undergarments for approximately four to five minutes, making skin-to-skin contact in the breast and upper chest area.' When the victim woke up to find Pochampally fondling her, he quickly removed his hand and fled down the aisle of the aircraft. According to the criminal complaint, 'multiple passengers witnessed the incident' and told attendants what had happened. It appears no one attempted to stop the alleged assault as it occurred, however.
pie-eater 207
It's happened again. Back in 1992 Australia's then prime minister Paul Keating infamously put his left arm around Queen Elizabeth II's back. The unashamed republican was quickly called 'The Lizard of Oz' as a result and found himself at the centre of a diplomatic storm. Well now it seems both sides of Australian politics are guilty of prohibited pats on the back. Liberal PM Tony Abbott, more staunchly a monarchist than nearly all his predecessors, was snapped with his arm around the midriff of the Duke of Cambridge at an official engagement in Parliament House, Canberra on Thursday. The photo was uploaded to the Australian Harper's Bazaar Instagram feed and immediately drew ire from the the online community. Well, it's jolly well drawing ire from me, that's for sure! lin 0
Susanna Reid’s ITV debut on Good Morning Britain drew mixed reactions, with criticism that the show looked too similar to its U.S counterpart and that Ms Reid’s figure was obscured by a desk. As the show began viewers took to Twitter to complain that the legs of the 43-year-old - who is reportedly being paid £400,000 a year for her new role - were hidden from view. One viewer commented: 'Why has ITV paid so much for @susannareid100 only to put her behind a desk? Its like buying a Ferrari and keeping it in the garage #gmb.'
