Breast implant scandal: 'Remove all faulty implants'

All 40,000 British women who received faulty breast implants should have them removed if they are leaking as badly as evidence presented to the government suggests, a leading surgeon has warned.

Real women have this done? Not just celebs?

Leaking!

Yikes.

First sign of an apocalyptic year to come? Thousands of blackbirds fall to their death in Arkansas town for second New Year's Eve in a row

Ancient Mayan legend says that 2012 will bring the end of the world.

A small Arkansas town might have shown the first example of that as approximately 5,000 blackbirds dropped dead from the sky last night in the early hours of the new year.

As if the incident was not strange enough, it is the second time in two years that the birds have fallen as the calendar year changes.

Scary shit!

Americans buy record numbers of guns for Christmas

According to the FBI, over 1.5 million background checks on customers were requested by gun dealers to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System in December. Nearly 500,000 of those were in the six days before Christmas.

It was the highest number ever in a single month, surpassing the previous record set in November.

On Dec 23 alone there were 102,222 background checks, making it the second busiest single day for buying guns in history.

The actual number of guns bought may have been even higher if individual customers took home more than one each.

At least six people are reported dead after a cruise ship carrying more than 4,000 people ran aground off Italy.

The Costa Concordia hit a sandbar on Friday evening near the island of Giglio and listed about 20 degrees, after which people tried to reach land in lifeboats or by swimming.

The last 50 people on board are being evacuated by helicopter in a "worsening" situation.

Italians, Germans, French and British were among the 3,200 passengers.

In addition, 1,000 crew were on board the vessel.

One thousand passengers were Italian, with 500 Germans and 160 French.

The Costa Concordia had sailed earlier on Friday from Civitavecchia port near Rome for a Mediterranean cruise, due to dock in Marseille after calling at ports in Sicily, Sardinia and Spain.

`Homeless' man turns out to be US model

The French National Front was left red-faced this week after it emerged that a photo it used in its posters of a man made "homeless" by President Nicolas Sarkozy's policies was actually a US model.

Another photo used by presidential candidate Marine Le Pen's party of a derelict factory -- to denounce Sarkozy's industrial strategy -- turned out to be a a picture of a building in the Northern Irish town of Lurgan.

A spokesman from the anti-immigrant party told AFP that the use of the photos did not mean that it had abandoned its policy of "national preference", which is supposed to favour French nationals over foreigners.

He said the party had no plans to replace the photos and claimed they used the one of the American pretending to be homeless because "we have the decency not to photograph people in the street who are unfortunate."

The "homeless" photo, from a series of a man striking various poses, was from a US stock photo website where it is still on sale for two dollars.

The factory photo was taken from the online photo-sharing service Flickr.

Exclusive: Education secretary proposes taxpayers fund gift – likely to cost at least £60m – to mark 'momentous occasion

what a great idea....its not as if Britain needs that 60 million pounds of public money for anything else. After all the Queen and her cronies really do the country a fantastic service...........I think we should give her the Costa Concordia, I hear its going cheap
