Sorry about Newcastle, that seems very sad. What was the turning point for them? I remember (or seem to remember) them being thought of as one of the top teams?

Its not that long since the Toon were in the CL. They finished above Chelsea and Liverpool in 2003. If there was a major turning point, it was appointing Souness. The same man did in Liverpool ten years earlier and opened the door for the success ManYoo have had. There have been minor ups since that point, but the main direction has been down.

tonight is the "big" game....followed Burnely for many a years from the highs of beating Tottenham (about '83) to the lows nearly going out of the football league (about '92)

I really they can do it tonight...it will be like a dream come true!

But never mind if we don't we've always got Newcastle to look forward too!

You a Burnley man Stemik? Didn't know that, always like to hear when people support the wee teams. Are you from Burnley then?
Owen Coyle is a good guy, scored the goal that took Dundee United back into the Scottish Premier in 1996 play off with Partick Thistle....plenty of time for him, so i'll be rooting for the Clarets

Quote:
Burnley have returned to the Premier League for the first time in 33 years by defeating Sheffield United 1-0 in the Coca-Cola Championship play-off final.

In a match said to be worth £60million to its winner, the Yorkshire club triumphed at Wembley thanks to a superb goal from Wade Elliot after 13 minutes. The midfielder surged past two challenges before exchanging passes and curling in a shot from the edge of the penalty area.

"That's probably the best goal I'll ever score," Elliott said. "My mum and dad were sat up in the opposite corner and I thought about running over, but it was too hot."

Burnley finished fifth in the Championship, two places below Sheffield United, but had more goalscoring chances today. They join Wolverhampton Wanderers and Birmingham City in going up to the Premier League. "We had chances to put the game to bed," Owen Coyle, their manager, said. "I felt we were worthy winners on the day and there's a big adventure ahead."

Well done chaps clap
