BigBoned 0
Hi there Great to find this place and join in. I have never been to Japan yet but hoping to this winter. I have friends going to Niseko and other places in Hokkaido but I know someone who lives in Morioka and I am thinking of going with a few other adventurous friends to that area and maybe try Shizukuishi and Appi Kogen. The only thing really holding me back I suppose is that the places are a bit more spread out and it will need more planning. Anyone on here from around that region?
AET 0
Hi BigBoned. Never been up that area but would like to. I think there's a few in that area.
aomorigum 0
Hi BigBoned. I'm not next door, but not too far away. Nice places, I prefer Shizukuishi myself. Good snow. I like Morioka as well.

soubriquet 0
There are many ski jos in and around Iwate. Appi is big but boring. Hire a car and ther are about 20 places to go for a day trip. Driving in Tohoku is easy as long as you don`t mind snow. There will be plenty of that.
Shizukoo Ishi 0
Hi all I'm in Iwate, about 25-30 minutes drive from Shizukuishi. Good place!
BagOfCrisps 24
Is it worth the trip from Zao up there? (And how long might it take?) The question is ---- how north do we go?!
Shizukoo Ishi 0
I'm not sure how long it would take BagOfCrisps, but I would think the best and quickest would be to get back on the Tohoku Expressway and zoom up from there. Perhaps within 2 hours?
BigBoned 0
thanks for the replies. I really like the look of Zao as well, it looks like the scenery there is magnificent.

Godd 0
I went up to Shizukuishi last March. The place isn't huge but some good long runs and the conditions were good. It was very quiet when we went mid week.

Then a blast north up the Tohoku expressway. I think Iwate is worth the trip. There are a lot of places in easy reach of Shizukuishi.
