It used to have two separate operators who weren't interested in connectivity. Now it is one company, but they haven't invested in re-alignment.

Zao have tiled their map, so this only shows part of it.

There's no connection at the bottom and the only lift at the top which allows connection from left to right is lift 12 (not identifiable on this map). Even then, it's barely skiable, and definitely a walk for boarders.

I actually heard (very possibly incorrect) that there were NINE operators on Zao at one time.

I like the Zao logo. That's nice. And the resort looks well worth a visit too ;\)

Zao is a big mountain and sits in two prefectures. There are at least 3 operators in Yamagata and 2 on the Miyagi side (or something like that). That's why I was careful to specify Yamagata Zao Onsen. That is the big one; the others are potential traps for the unwary.

it might not be worth it now. i don't know the conditions anymore on account of no longer living there, but it is usually pretty soggy by this time.

but pm me and i can likely direct in the right way for some sweet turns.
