SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan#Andrew 6 Posted January 18, 2008 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted January 18, 2008 Hi neversummer - thanks for posting the vids. If you look at page for each video on the snowjapan.tv site, on the right hand side you will find a part that says "SnowJapanForums Tag:". That tells you the code you need to put in the forums for the video to show within the forums. So for example: [snowjapantv] 219.flv [/snowjapantv] (but all on the same line) You could also just link to the URL of the video: http://www.snowjapan.tv/view_video.php?viewkey=e36708f955d7ab048990 Here it is

Tubby Beaver 209
OMG!!! That 1st one is unbelievable!!! I would've thought that all roofs would be pitched up there due to the amount of snow.
neversummer 0
On the corner of two main roads that lead to Hirafu and Hanazono. As it is being renovated, no one is living there and with no hear going into the roof, the snow just builds up. Just to do the 1m wide strip around the edge took 5 hours. Go Native 70
Time to update how the season has been going. For the month of January Kutchan received 336cm of snowfall. This is around 11% below average. We received snow on about 29 of the 31 days and it was a cold month so the snow quality was excellent. Kutchan's average maximum was -3.7 and minimum -10.9. The snowdepth at 1000m at the end of the month was about 260cm which is a bit below the average of the last 10 years which is around 290cm. So overall the season up to now hasn't really been characterised by massive snowfalls but by regular top ups and cold temps maintaining excellent quality snow.

Go Native 70
Well time to wrap up how Feb was. Like Jan the month was quite cool with overnight temps especially being below average at -11.4. Max temps were maybe slightly above ave at -1.2. This was indicative of the number of clear nights and days we had through the month. Snowfall was about 20% down on average but still a respectable 228cm was recorded in Kutchan. Much better than last year's abysmal 158cm. Near the end of the month we experienced a major storm that was accompanied by very strong winds. The winds redistributed snow across the mountain and over the plains. For a day or two the airport was basically shut down and many roads across the island were impassable. March is not looking great with the longer term forecast calling for higher than average temps and lower than average snowfalls. This coming week there is little snow in the forecast and above zero temps at low levels most days.

Go Native 70
I think the strong winds we had in late Feb seriously screwed with your stats Mike. Kutchan recorded significantly more snow in Feb than in Dec.
Mike Pow 52
More than likely. Can only measure what's there though, not what I think should be there. If I did that would make me a resort snow reporter
Fattwins 0
If the winds were strong enough to effect the readings then they dont count as fallen snow. That is what a plot study is. A plot study is a history of the snow as it happens not what you think should be there.
Mike Pow 52
Precisely. See above.

Fattwins 0
The quick reply always makes it look like you are talking/refering to the person above. It can confuse people.
Go Native 70
I find it interesting how much more snow Mike has recorded at his place compared to what fell in Kutchan. It's obvious that up a little higher and closer to the mountian there will be more snowfall. I'm interested in trying to extrapolate just how much snow falls on the mountain compared to the figures we have down in Kutchan.
