For the most part that has been the case since we introduced it in late April. There have been a number of incidents though which have forced us to re-think the way it is run. The contents of the Chat Box are visible to everyone - both members and non-members - and on every single page of the Forums (unless of course members have the right hand side column turned off when logged in). As such, we do not want the Chat Box to be used for anything other than polite, friendly conversation and chat. It doesn't have to be about winter sports, it doesn't have to be totally serious - but it does have to be within our guidelines. Here's the guidelines: - No personal insults; - No swearing (includes use of **** and ascii characters); - No offensive or gutter over use of humour; - No sarcasm directed towards SJ moderators/policies; - No badmouthing of any individual, company or organisation; - No discussion of any business; - No advertising or business promotion of any kind; - No links We do not want to turn the Chat Box off and we're not going to let a few people spoil the fun for many more. If people go against the guidelines, the only solution available to use is to prevent them from posting. We don't want to do that. But... Please note that this does not represent us becoming stricter with regards to content of the Forums in general. This policy applies to the Chat Box. (However if you are banned from the Chat Box, you will automatically also be banned from the Forums in general). SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan 178 Posted July 22, 2007 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted July 22, 2007 CHATBOX CLOSED FOR SUMMER, BUT FORUMS ONLINE AS NORMAL Just to let you all know that the chatbox will be turned off for a number of weeks over the summer period. This doesn't mean that there won't be any moderators around, just that we will not be on hand possibly as much as usual. The Forums will be open as usual - just without the chatbox. The chatbox was only introduced in April this year but has quickly become a popular part of the Forums. But for these few weeks if you can just remember how things were before the chatbox appeared, hopefully we can all get through it ok. If you enjoy using the Chatbox - sorry, but it will be back soon.
