sanjo 2
Digital cameras really changed my attitude to photos as well. Before I didn't take many at all it was a hassle and expensive. But digitals have made it really cheap, no need to worry about wasting film and all that, and almost fun for someone as not creative as myself. Good to send photos home as well. scouser 4
Digital cameras are really good for Dads too. My dad only took very few photos when it was film but you can't stop him now and he is really enjoying it.
OBLONG 0
I still have an old Pentax SLR and can't get rid of it... too many good photos it has taken. The throwaway ease of digicams has really taken hold though. I'm thinking of getting a decent digital SLR before summer as well. The Nikons do seem popular - anyone with any other makes, Sony? Canon? brit-gob 9
I'm getting frustrated with the camera I have (fairly cheap digicam) and looking to get something better but not sure whether to make the move to an SLR or just get a top range normal digicam. What do you think - what exactly is the main benefit of going SLR?
Kumapix 0
go to a shop and check out the d40 or d40x (nikon). benefit of going slr is the better lenses. or check out the canon g7
merryJim 1
SLRs are just too bulky and me not being a particularly avid photographer, a good small digital camera does me just fine.
thursday 1
right, this is the place to ask this. I'm thinking about the AF-S 17-35 F2.8. My friends tell me this is wasted on a DSLR since the 17-55 DX would do just as good a job for less money. I don't know, don't really want to buy a DX lens since all mine are AFs from my film days. Any comment on these choices?
Kumapix 0
yeah, it'd be a waste Thursday.17-55 is a real nice lens. Since you're not going back to your film days, and full frame (affordable) Nikons won't be out for a while, you may as well get the dx lens.
thursday 1
Kuma, thanks for that. I'll be trying the 17-55 this weekend, but seriously fancy the 17-35.
Kumapix 0
i think they are both kick ass but the 17-55 has more range and is smaller/lighter. I got the 70-200 f2.8vr last week and it is soooo sweet...but so heavy.
Kumapix 0
just picked up a canon 800is with a 1gig sd card for 27659 amazon.co.jp the wife will be happy

Kumapix 0
that camera is for her
bushpig 0
what, you won't let her near any of your many cameras?
Kumapix 0
she finds my camera too big & heavy, plus she wants something to throw in her bag and take party shots etc. What about you??? You should be taking a shot a day! Maybe it's time to upgrade the d70 so you can get some sweet pics of your wedding
bushpig 0
haha! Yeah take pics of myself! Not gonna be a wedding as such though mate. My D70 is still fine, I have just been too slack to get out recently...
Kumapix 0
you could get great pov shots (no ushers getting the way etc!)
thursday 1
Yeah, my wife's the same and she doesn't like to look through the viewfinder, prefers looking at the screen to compose. Women.
Kumapix 0
i think the viewfinder is essential if I 'borrow' it in the winter
soubriquet 0
I have very long sight. Using the screen means faffing around with my magnifiers. The viewfinder is set to infinity so I don't need glasses. That's where I really miss my old SLR, because all the information was in the viewfinder.
thursday 1
Get yourself a DSLR, it'll knock your socks off.

thursday 1
GOt some prints from my local print shop. They suck. Much of the detail in the backgound they managed to overexpose and they put a date on the prints. Mothers.
