dale#1 1
It must be really amazing and more than a little strange seeing pics of the baby growing inside you. When is the due date me jane?
me jane 0
Yep, its strange. It's even more freaky to see my stomach ripple when he kicks. Feels a bit like "Alien". Due Oct 29th.
yamayamayama 2
Let's hope he looks a bit nicer than an Alien when he pops out. (Of the right place hopefully!)
Dims 0
Oh they all look pretty "alien" when they first come out! Little Liam had the cord wrapped around his neck four times! Very Geiger! I was talking with a rather straight-talking friend of mine the other day about the birth process and I had to laugh when he said that watching his partner giving birth was kind of like seeing a boa-constrictor eat a baby pig......but in reverse! rach 1
Amazing photo me jane. I'm so happy you are bringing us with you on your journey
damian 0
Dims! I wish I hadn't read that. It reminds me of a so-so chick with whom I had casual 'relations' with several years ago (just before the naughty girl got married). She had a friendly habit of dropping me a mail every 12 months just to say high. Last year I got a sexy set of pictures of her giving birth by caesarean section. Geez, thanks. Dims 0
Now that's a bit full on db! It's a bit like people who have the whole gang in the birth suite during labour. I can't understand that. It's not a spectator sport!
cheeseman 1
Those photos are really cool aren't they Jane. Glad to hear all is well. Cheesewoman is doing fine too.. not that long now!
Davo 1
Congrats Dims & Animal. Never understood the whole filming of the birth thing really. Seeing my brother's snaps of his wife undergoing a caesarean did nothing for me. I'd have liked to have seen my own baby being born but wasn't allowed into the operating theater for the caesarean. Did get to see her a minute or so after she was out though and hold her for a while.
2pints-mate 0
I wonder when an "SJ couple" will appear? (Have they already?) Congratulations everyone.
me jane 0
Did Cheesewoman get the 3D pic thing done too?
me jane 0
The nice avatar Fjef made me seems to have disappeared so here's a new temporary one. Hopefully I won't be looking like this for much longer!
me jane 0
Hmm, looking like I'm going to have to have a c-section because the baby was breech when I went to the hosp yesterday. He might turn around but it's unlikely as he probably decided having his head stuck in my ribs was more comfortable than having a fibroid up his nose. I had to book the dates for it in case I need it. 10 days in hosp, in on the 15th, section on the 17th and out on the 24th October. Bit stressful as it doesn't look like they are going to let Me Tarzan come in with me and I don't fancy being the other side of that curtain by myself! Everyone told me you can hear all the cutting and squelching sounds. Also the recovery time is longer and it might be difficult to lift the baby by myself for the first few weeks. soubriquet 0
Ouch. Sorry to hear that. It doesn't sound much fun at all.
indosnm 0
Enjoy the long recovery in hospital, me Jane. My sis just had a C section in OZ went in thursday am, had it that arvo and was out on sunday arvo!
me jane 0
Yeah, I was thinking that is one good point about being in Japan. I've read so many stories about people being sent home a few days later and then having their incisions burst open and/or get infected. Hope your sister recovers okay. ncorrenti 0
On the upside, at least you'll have a very good excuse to lie in bed while Me Tarzan waits on you hand and foot

Me Jane, you should try seeing a moxabustion (shinkyu) specialist. This may seem hard to believe, but there are respectable scientific studies proving that moxa burned over a tsubo on the left small toe (I think) actually unbreeches babies about 65% of the time, though nobody can explain why. I would also DEFINITELY get a second and even third opinion. Seems like almost everyone I know who has had a baby in the past few years (12 of 14 couples I know, literally) here in Japan has been told they "need" a cesarian. The rate can't possibly be that high. National health insurance schemes + patriarchal health systems tend to breed frivolous surgeries. Perhaps your doctor is on the level, but I would try everything in my power to avoid having surgery, especially if it is unneeded.
LiquidX 0
That photo is freaky! Whats that new avatar of yours me jane!?
rach 1
It is rather shocking. You often feel things like that me jane?
me jane 0
Thanks Tohoku bum, I've read about that moxabustion technique and was considering it but have (I think) decided to just leave him where he is. It's really strange how that works - some Chinese medicine is amazing. From what I've been reading (lots from both sides) it seems that while a vaginal birth is better in the long term for both mother & baby, some babies are in the breech position for a reason, such as the cord is around their neck and forcing them to turn might cause them to strangle themselves or, as is probably the reason in my case, fibroids or some other deformity in the uterus make being breech the most comfortable position for the baby, meaning that any exercise, moxabustion or external manipulation might make them turn temporarily but then they would turn back again. Forcing a turn can also cause placental damage. Working in a clinic, I would never trust a doctor's decision without doing my own research into the pros & cons of what they are recommending and have had lots of discussions with my doctor about their choices. She is pretty honest with me and said something very true which is that every doctor makes recommendations not only based on current medical knowledge but also on their skill & experience. A few weeks ago, before he was breech we were discussing birthing positions (something we don't agree on!) and she said that while it may well be possible to birth in other positions, her and her midwives are not experienced in them and she would not feel confident helping me. She said that if I was really unhappy with it she would be able to introduce me to a hospital that could support me. If I need a c-section then I have to decide whether to have an epidural or spinal and the issue is similar - both have pros & cons but as the sucess of anesthesia is operator dependant I would be better to go with the one that my anesthesiologist is more experienced in administering. Another option would be to find someone willing to deliver him breech - most hospital policies don't allow it so it would mean finding a midwife or birthing centre. Due to the increased risk of bleeding (cos of the fibroids) it would be pretty difficult to find someone/place other than a hospital to take me on in Japan. It's a hard decision because as you say, unnecessary surgery is never a good thing. Liquid X, I can't rememember where that avatar is from. I am using it on another forum and linked it from there. Rach, yep I feel all sorts of wierd kicks and stuff. The nearest thing I can descibe it to is gas moving through your intestines. I can feel it anywhere from in my bum, to under my ribs. Sometimes it tickles - it doesn't really hurt. If he is having a good move around I can see his head or bum bulging out of my stomach - that just makes me feel really stretched. Never seen a foot poke out though!
