smiler 0
I was driving near Iiyama today (northern Nagano) and noticed them putting up the but ugly new shinkansen..... those things just look so bad.
big-will 7
Where that be going from/to then?
misorano 1
They are putting it thru from Nagano to Kanazawa. I was up in Itoigawa a few months ago and they seemed to have the most of it done.
Hokkaidough 4
If it is from Kanazawa to Nagano, how come it is in Iiyama - isn't Iiyama to the east of Nagano city?
number9 0
If they only built Shinkansens where they are profitable, we'd only have the Tokyo-Osaka line and no quick ways of getting to ski resorts
misorano 1
Eventually it is going to extend down to Osaka, offering a northern alternative to the Tokaido line. Nothing like going miles out of your way and adding a few hours to the journey. If the Chuo Shinkansen (Maglev) gets off the ground (no pun intended) then Osaka and Tokyo will only be 1 hours apart. misorano 1
Hokkaidough: It is easier to break through to the Japan Sea coast north of iiyama than it is north-west of Nagano.
grungy-gonads 54
Tried to find but couldn't - anyone got a simple map of the route for that?
misorano 1
Havea look at this page
smiler 0
That does have me confused after seeing the length of track I did yesterday and its position - it seemed to be going from the Nagano region towards Nozawa. I'm sure it will make sense when it's all built and looking pretty
bushpig 0
Looks like it might make getting to Nagano from Osaka a bit easier/quicker via Shink
misorano 1
Without wanting to appear too nerdy, I've made a simple map. If you look at he contour shading, you will figure out why it is going up to Iiyama
smiler 0
Ah I see. I'm surprised (or maybe not) that Myoko didn't get a station. It will very nicely spoil the Myoko countryside though, hey?
bushpig 0
That will make for a longer trip from Osaka eh! Ah well.
Yuki's Passion 1
actually piggy there are express trains from Osaka/Kyoto that go over to Kanazawa which would be faster than a Shink ....he says without a clue The express train from Osaka-Nagoya-Matsumoto-local to Hakuba is about 5 hours or just under (including over an hour local ride)
bushpig 0
Yeah, I was thinking about the possibility of getting from Hiroshima to Nagano without having to go via Tokyo. Thought maybe it would be shorter/cheaper. But after seeing that map it doesn't look that way.
Yuki's Passion 1
mate if you wanted to train it to Nagano best for you would be Shink to Nagoya and then change to the Express train listed above. Thatd be the fastest for ya. Real question is would you make it past Kyoto? Lemme know once ya get the key too please by emailing my cell
bushpig 0
Yes mate, but maybe not alone. Will do on the kagi mate.
misorano 1
BP: They are going to extend it down from Kanazawa to Osaka later, but work on it hasn't started yet. If you're still here in 35 years you may be able to someone to roll your wheel chair onto the train from one of the platforms at Shin Osaka.
bushpig 0
Thanks Misorano, I'll keep that in mind.
echineko 1
I see Iiyama get station where will it go in that place maybe part inside mountain.
sanjo 2
No I think it's out in the open echineko... a nice eyesore on that fine stretch between Nagano and Iiyama
scouser 4
So Itoigawa is getting a station then? That will be fairly close to Hakuba won't it?
misorano 1
Nope. There is a train line down from Itoigawa to Hakuba (and on to Matsumoto), but there's only 1 train every 2 hours or and you're left with a wait at Minami Otari. Nagano is closer and has a good bus service.
Phantom Raspberry Blower 0
Won't they be increasing those trains from Itoigawa once the shink is up?
