Bob Geldof says 'don't do emails'

Recommended Posts

Not sure I'd have a job, but anyhow interesting outburst from Smart Bob:

>>

Live8 organiser Sir Bob Geldof has revealed his contempt for emails, blaming them for tying up people's time and stopping genuine action.

Sir Bob told a conference in London that emails "give a feeling of action, which is a mistake".

He told delegates that what workers achieve each day will be linked to the number of emails they ignore.

He explained that the "doing part" of a job is proportionate to the amount of emails you do not answer.

"Emails get in the way of serious consideration of what you want to do," Sir Bob said.

At the conference, organised by the innovation firm ?What if! , Sir Bob said he dreaded seeing lots of emails in his inbox, as they imposed an agenda on him, and disrupted his own plans for the day.

A successful businessman as well as social activist, Sir Bob also warned of the perils of an badly-phrased email, which he said he knows from personal experience can cause serious commercial harm.

"The tone can be wrong", he explained. "All ill-considered email can destroy a deal."

His advice to delegates at the conference in the Brick Lane area of London was blunt.

"Don't do email."

Sir(read Turncoat)Bob's ails are of little import. As if - next he'll be suggesting we should give up phones, tv's, wireless telegraphy et al because of the cunning false demands they place upon us.

Maybe he's a nice guy, I don't know, but

"Why does he command such a wide audience?"

Yeah right. Pretty stupid comment. If he were talking about spam/junk/idiots cc'ing to everyone for no reason, there is a point there.

One of my pet hates that, getting drowned in cc's that are just a waste of time.

it amazes me that with all these so-called `time saving devices` nobody ever has any free time, or time for each other. how we ever managed without them has got me beat. i mean, how on earth did housewives ever find time to do stuff before tha washing machine, electric iron, microwave, `kitchen-o-matic`, towel warmer, vacum cleana, etc etc were invented wakaranai.gif

i went to dinner the otha nite, and on tha table next to us were a couple (hubby/wife, bfriend/gfriend/sfriend..??), and the entire nite they wouldn`t have said 20 words to each other. rather, they spent the time they weren`t eating on their phones mailing. confused.gif mmm, maybe they were mute and were mailing each other??

a generalization i know, but people have lost the ability to socialise face-to-face.

what bugs me is peeps who say they`re gunna mail you and don`t mad.gif

On the train with a friend yesterday and asked her what the mail was that just arrived on her keitai. It was her friend telling her that she had just got on a train. (They weren't planning on meeting or had anything special planned - the friend just sent a mail about getting on a train). I don't think I'll ever get that.
