Fatties not getting jobs, thought this was interesting:

http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1200221,00.html

"Employers are shunning fat workers because they think obesity affects productivity and indicates a lack of self discipline, a report suggests. A survey of 2,000 personnel officers found most preferred to hire someone of "normal" weight. The findings suggest overweight workers are being marginalised and given fewer opportunities than their slimmer counterparts".

Fat people just don't look good, and their eating habits can be offputting. It's hardly surprising that people who take care in those matters should seek the company of like-minded people.

(One reason I suggested that Fattwins shouldn't go with that name for his business. Who wants to go and stay with somebody who sounds like they may make food that causes obesity?)

I put it down to natural selection – people discriminate on the basis of looks. historically fat may have been associated with wealth and class, but now it ain’t such a good look.

If there were 2 equally qualified and likable people, – one ugly, one good looking – who’s gonna get hired?

There was an interesting point in that movie Super Size Me – how long is it going to be until fat people are lambasted in the same way that cigarette smokers currently are? With undeniable health problems associated with obesity, and the knock on effects fat parents have on their kids, it seems reasonable to assume that fat people will be fair targets of societies who do not wish to have them as a burden on their health system.

I am a little suprised at the negativity towards fat people here. Sure, its not healthy, and it makes fitting into a japanese bathtub a bitch, but let me relate something to you.

Do you think for a minute they like being fat and having people oogle them with disgust? Lets say i have an addiction.

For the sake of arguement, lets get wacky and say that i watch a lot of porn. Not just because its nice to see beautiful women getting busy, but because it seems fills a need i have. But it never does, and i end up having to watch more and more to try to compensate, and it causes me to do stupid stuff like hang out on the computer until the wee hours when i have to get up early the next day. Definatelly ot mentally healthy, and it warps my view of women. I know i have the problem, but it is still easier to fill the void than to deal with it directly.

However, unless you catch me on the computer or in the video store, you would never know i have the addiction. Its safe and easy in that way.

A lot of people are fat for the same reason. Eating provides them with a comfort they are missing in their lives. But because the results of that addiction are easily seen for everybody, they get shit on a lot. Until i can deal with my `fictionary` addiction positively, i going to try not to harsh on someone with the same problem (and just a different way of dealing with it).

As for workplace discrimination and body shape, basically all career women have to be slim. This affects the ladies more than the blokes.

Cosmetic surgery is how many people achieve it, especially older people whose metabolism naturally slows.

I prefer rotund people or people who look their age to Martha Stewart freakshow-types. Keep it real!

rotund is a really good word. I will use that today.

Oh yes I did have a point.

Theres a problem in our company now a woman is claiming she was fired because she is, er, 'extremely rotund'. Looks like she is going to take it as far as she can go.

Another interesting article here:

"A sports enthusiast was told not to wear vests at a council gym because the sight of "big hairy armpits" would upset other users.

Anthony Ward, 41, said he was told by an instructor to wear T-shirts instead of a vest while using gym equipment at Horfield Leisure Centre, Bristol."

Don't like hairy armpits in Bristol, the snobs \:\)

I agree with Oyuki.

Y'know, not all overweight people spend all day eating and don't do any excercise.

My dad is about 30kg overweight and it's not through lack of trying to lose it. He eats more healthily than anyone I know and he swims/walks every day. It's very hard on him because everyone else in the family is quite slim, and we all eat like pigs and do very little purposeful excercise.

Sometimes, you just can't fight nature.

So, give fatties a break will ya?
